# 1 So... Which Odyssey to take?
03-14-2012, 02:55 PM
Engineering: extra Eng console and +5 to all power
Tactical: extra Tac console and +10 Weapon, +5 Aux & Shield power
Science: extra Sci console & +10 to Aux & Shield, and Sensor Analysis.

I was thinking to go with the Tac, cause wep power and extra Tac console is always nice. But that Sensor Analysis sounds like it could be nice too. Five engineering consoles could make tanking easier, but just does not excite me; how many armor consoles do you need? Five RCS Accelerators? So any thoughts on what would be the 'best' version to take?

I'd be careful about Sensor Analysis, do not buy the ship because of it. Some devs have mentioned in posts that they're not totally sure if it'll be balanced, and that they'll have to 'see how it turns out.'

I don't think the power differences, even console differences, are enough to really matter compared to what universal console you want.

The Ops Odyssey gets +15 Weapon when using Saucer Separation. That gives it some good kick - and a nice turn rate boost when separated. It ends up being slightly better then the Galaxy R, IMO.

I'm a little leery that the Science Cruiser might have some changes to SA in the future - which might end up making it the weakest of the trio.

I'd agree about what has been said about science, especially since its not actually a science ship. Which is confusing given the Sensor Analysis benefit when it does not have the typical subsystem targeting options science ships (who get SA) have.

The 4 & 4 consoles for eng/sci with 2 for tactical is appealing to me however as a decent middle ground between the others. But my point of view is from having all three to use consoles from.

If I could only have one, I would probably go with tactical as the support craft has shown me it can take quite a beating while be.. well... reasonably supportive.

It's tough to decide right now, as we don't have the final versions to look at. Between now and when they come out (or even after), the devs could remove or adjust features, which would alter your criteria for deciding.

After looking at all of the variants, I am on the fence myself. I already have the basline ship, and as near as I can see, for 2000 c-points, I am purchasing a different order of BOs (the Sci ensign to become a universal Ensign isn't much of a change, and none at all if you are going to use it as a Science BO anyway), a single special ability, a different distribution of power bonuses, a different bridge interior, and a different (not necessarily better) skin for the ship. The extra console slot is mitigated by the need to use it for the special ability of the ship, so no actual bonus here. So the real question I have to ask is if a new bridge and the single special ability are worth 2000 c-points to me?

I love the Odyssey class, but I just don't know. The Science version is likely to have it's SA changed or removed, so I don't want to buy it only to have something I purchased removed without compensation, and the Aquarius Escort that is part of the Tactical version is also something I wonder about, as it could easily be considered too much of an advantage over the Operations version (is a seperated cheveron as effective a fighter as an Aquarius? If not, then one will have to be adjusted later). I'm going to wait until I see the final stats tomorrow before I make any further attempts at deciding.

However, overriding all such considerations is the fact that I can't run -any- Odyssey as long as that minium-zoom issue persists. The ship is so small I can't enjoy flying it, so I can't see buying another ship I can't bear to fly because I'm afraid I'll lose track of where it is next to all those other pinpoints of light on the screen.

Point of fact: the Odyssey+1 actually comes with ten consoles, where other ships max out at 9, so it really does come with an extra, free-use console, considering most ships these days come with one universal console (Cloak, Point Defense console, etc.)

They intend for you to put three special consoles on it, though, giving you a net loss of one.

Wait until they're released to the C-store, buy them on Tribble after changes and see

The best of chevron seperation is not the saucer pet, it's the enhanced turnrate and offensive power.

The Aquarius isn't survivable at all. Maybe against weak PvE enemies, but a player will take it out in less then 5 seconds, with AoE even without targeting it.

I think it only makes sense to get all 3.

Save 2000, have 3 consoles for full ability, put your other c-store consoles on your builds if you have them and have a seriously fun ship.

If your a PvP players some c-store consoles are handy if put into the right build. The Odyssey is giving us more console slots to explore that.

I mean imaging taking an existing Tier 5 ship and putting any c-store console on it at your choice? That is essentially what Odyssey offers and Bortas too. Not to buy one, well why would you not, but why not just wait until you can afford the 3 for all characters you have?!
