# 1 The "Science is cool" thread.
03-14-2012, 07:17 PM
Star Trek is a techies dream. It's safe to say that it has driven the evolution of many technologies. Which makes this forum a natural place to talk about the sciences.

Prof. Richard Muller of U.C. Berkely teaches an introductory course entitled, "Physics for Future Presidents". It attempts to teach the concepts which govern our universe, with the emphasis on conceptual physics instead of advanced mathematical computations.

The course is hosted on YouTube, 26 segments which are approximately one hour each. On each segment's YT page is a DL link, each segment is an approximately 150mb mp4 file.

I recommend burning them to a cd, or a flash drive. I listen to them while driving, working around the house, etc. Muller is pretty easy to listen to.

I think it's extremely cool of both Muller and Berkely to share this course matter with the public, may as well take advantage of it!

When I read that, the first thing that popped into my mind was "The Waters".

Unfortunately, planets in the habitable zone of red dwarfs are likely to be tidally locked to their stars, meaning that lit is very unlikely to contain much if any liquid water.

I agree, that was cool.

Now we do not only know there are other star systems with planets. We now even know there are types of planets that we don't even have in our own star system! Kinda makes the world even more marvellous...

Good posts, ladies and gents!

Keep 'em coming!

/Love listening to DeGrasse Tyson. Chris Cox, and Michio Kaku are also favorites.

It's actually a bit shocking to see Degrasse ****ed off in that video.
