Missing additional character slot for current/ lapsed Gold Members
My problem is that by the time I get done with one of my VAs, I don't feel like repeating the same thing again on three more characters. It takes me about 2-3 hours to get one char to the dilithium max doing the non-pvp dailies. As the second poster stated, I also feel that 9 hours of farming dilithium, across three characters, for 50 days for one ship is too much. This is why I tend to stick to the C-Store ships, at least with them, when you buy one it unlocks for all characters on that account and faction.
Too many things in the game cost too much dilithium, especially DOs and Ships, in my opinion. I'm finding less and less motivation to log in and do the same thing over, multiple times a day, just to afford one item that only one character might use but yet has to be obtained by grinding multiple characters for what feels like eons.
I'm sure you've noticed my extreme drop in gameplay over the past few months since F2P, Cryptic. This is why. I still do not like this Dilithium System and feel it needs a major overhaul and rebalancing.
well said. very well said.

Not just the repetitive dailies - as fun as they are, too much repitition kills a lot of good fun for me.
Featured Episodes, at the very least, should reward a good chunk of Dilithium. Nay.. nay, all missions should reward dilithium.
Doing things that do not earn Dilithium feel wasted and leave me wanting, as though nothing was accomplished and I am no more closer to what I have been wanting to purchase. Simply because I was not doing anything that earned dilithim - which you have to take in to account just how many things cost dilithium in the game, as well as their prices.
My only guess is that the reasoning for the rarity of Dilithium is the marketing decision makers behind the Dilithium Exchange. A major reassessment and overhaul is needed to this "Dilithium" system as a whole.
once again, very well said.
I now afk farm my daily dil, thanking everybody whos actually doing the work at each turnin.
this way i can work at work, and have sto running in background, rather then just doing my farming after work when im at home...(Because it takes many hours to do what use to take a couple before)

TBH the best bet would be to remove those missions from the game, and replace the borg with a debri field/asteroid belt and turn both Ker'rat and N'Vak into open PVP zones (AKA one big 'hairy furball').
However without Ker'rat getting your 8k dil isn't 'easy' when your a low level, so adding one or two zones like the 'Empire Defence' the Klingons have would help, and they can 'farm' them all day if they want as they wont be doing them AFK.
it wont happen till they are looking at having to shut the servers down again, till then the prices will be at least 2x what the should be and it will cost far to much time to get your dil grinds done per day if you dont do what I have started doing and run the client in the background as you get other stuff done at work, 1 char takes 2.7777777 hours to get 8k dil with the timer, I have multi chars/toons, at 2-3hrs per...thats alot of time to max out for the day...
the sad part is, what this was sposta fix according to those who pushed for it....AFK farming, wasnt fixed it was ENCOURAGED because....people like me use to instance hop after an objective set was done to find one that reset or was about to reset so we could rush to do it again....now, no point, just sit back and let others do the work.....
all this will do is drive people who dont have the money to buy cstore points for cash, and who also dont have many hours to spend grinding for dil out of the game, smart move.....who needs people like me who bring a bunch of friends who pay into the game after all?
note: I am disabled, I have very little to no money, but i have a few friends who have put alot of money into the game since i got them to try it when it went f2p.....one has spend over 300 getting us both dde+ce+std keys, and cstore points, he would keep doing this but.....40bucks for 3 ships.....and the time it takes to earn enough dil to buy anything worth while, be it cstore points or ships......hes decided to hold off on buying anything else from cryptic, since gw2 will be out soon and we all have our preorders in already.
I love trek and STO can be fun, but, this grind for the sake of grinding.....dosnt seem worth it to us....
specally when we can play gw2 thats a 1 time payment of 50-70bucks(de and dde), no montly fee, no over priced store items......
gotta wonder by the logic i see from some people on this forums about f2p....how can arenanet and ncsoft manage to keep gw1 servers up for years on end when theres no monthly fee or over priced store items, just a buy to play model with expantions?
gw2 is to use the same model....how can they have spent YEARS making the new game and running the servers based on a buy to play model when the logic I see used to justify the high prices in this game would have people paying for 3 ships close to what i would pay to get a game i never have to put another dime into and dont have to grind to get stuff in.....
I dont understand....
maby cryptic should have looked at how arenanet and ncsoft did gw1 and gone with that model rather then p2p.......or they could look at the bulk of f2p games out there and notice that enlarge they dont have 20-50$ per item prices......
I have not been playing long enough to ever ripe the benefits of that area, or hear of it, for that matter, but reading up on it now it kinda seems like doing the missions there was a vastly superrior way to aquire Dilithium when directly compared to doing anything else in game. If that is the case, I can actually understand why they would not want to keep it as it is.
Games shouldn't be about doing the same thing over and over again for hours. Yes, I know MMORPGs often are, but they shouldn't be.
In that vein though I actually do support Zebulbars Suggestion of offering other ways to gather Dilithium by doing things like patrols or Story missions, Maybe add other Combat zones or things like the borg alerts where people can jump in and Fight with other players, gaining Dilithium based on how much they contributed to the fight.
What do so many have against F2P people? I don't have the extra cash to spend on the C-Store, so its farm or nothing.
Most people don't have any issues with them. There's always going to be some who hate the idea that someone can get something without paying for it. The best thing to do is just ignore them.

from what i see, its only those who have been paying to be gold for a long time and/or lifers who tend to hate the f2p'ers(even saw one call them "silver scum" hence my use of the term in a sarcastic way)
they dont like that they spent so much money on a game that people now play free.....they cant see that if not for f2p, sto would likely be gone now and all the money they spent would be down the drain....
i don't pvp, and i can make, on average, at least 100cp a day if i do the dailies and the like (though for some reason, Strange New Words won't include B'Tran for me, so I have to do Delta Volanis too).
Using just dilithium funds for CP, i've managed to buy the Connie Refit (the one with the torpedo that works against cloaked ships), the Oberth, the Gladius (I think it's called), and a few of those lock box keys.
i was a gold, but due to some bank troubles im currently silver, so don't have a stipend (bar one I got a while back). The only thing i've paid real money for was the DS9 pack, and that was because I just wanted it that badly at the time.
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but getting the CP for free really does give me the incentive i need to go through the same missions several times a day, and I think the Dilithium Exchange is one of the best things they've added to the game in the almost two years i've been playing.
working as intended, they will likely add a cooldown to the other missions to ensure you dont get enough dil to buy ships or exchange for any meaningful ammount of cstore points, again, this is the intent of the changes they want you to BUY CSTORE POINTS not farm for them.
I paid for a lifetime subscription before STO came out and bought plenty of cstore stuff before FTP, I will not put one more cent of my own real money into this game. While this cool down is an inconvieniece it's not the end of the world. You can get one or two space stfs done while u wait, and let's face it, a round in kerrat can take a long time if the KDF is in top form. There's plenty of ways to get dilithium, kerrat is just the easiest (and most fun IMO).
I'm disappointed by the way some people are acting towards the FTP players, the rudeness is simply uncalled for.

And before the cooldown you instance hopped and let everyone else do the work? Oh, poor Kerrat farmers. They used to be so active and now they are forced to AFK.

You say it mockingly, but actually thats about correct. Pre patch, I could hop instance to instance, shoot up a bunch of probes, and grind out my 8k in an hour or so. Or I could AFK farm, just remembering to switch back to the STO window every half hour or so to turn in the assignment. I did both depending on my mood and if I had other stuff to do on my computer. Now the hopping option is gone, and the half-hour timer is just about right for AFKing anyways, so really the timer only hits the people who wanted to active-farm. I don't expect this to do much of anything to the AFKers.

Not sure if this is in response to my postings in this thread or that of the OPs or someone elses. However, as I said, It takes me 2-3 hours to get to dilithium cap on ONE character, doing the dailies (non-pvp). I do not PvP, I do not like STO PvP, I will not be forced to PvP just because a company (not devs) is greedy. As I said, by the time I get one of my VAs done, I simply find no enjoyment in repeating the exact same thing over two or three more times...
Simply put, with a Dilithium Cap in place and being unable to trade Un-Refined Dilithium, there is absolutely no reason for Dilithium to be rare. Bottom line, I see no reason why all missions could not, nay - should not - award a respective amount of Dilithium. All missions should award a respectable amount of Unrefined Dilithium, in my humble and bored opinion.
This "Repetative Grinding Dilithium System" is killing this game, for me. They way I look at it right now, with so many new MMOs being released and/or going F2P, I only have one Resurrection scroll for STO. Otherwise, my enjoyment and recreation shall be sought elsewhere. I am however patient and am by no means "rarge-quitting" - I will continue to do the best I can (about 3-6 hours a week of gameplay now-a-days, due to lack of motivation and enjoyment) and hope to hear wind of future change before I am unable to even find the will to log in once a week.
