I have a few questions one if which has rather thrown me considering that one of the new Oddy variants has a separation console added as its primary "unique" ability.

#1. When are consoles from purchased C-store ships going universal?

#2. barring ship type specific consoles will they be truly universal as in fitted to ANY ship?

and the big one

#3. WHICH separation console will let me separate my Galaxy X and will THAT specific console let me separate my "free" Oddy?

or to put it another way am i going to have to splash out 2000c for another separation console or will my Exploration cruiser retrofit console let me split both ships?

i really dont want to have to splash out twice when at the moment i cant use my EC Retro console on anything but the EC Retro despite being told that soon it will be a universal console.
Dont get me wrong i understand it will be limited to cruisers and possibly the Galaxy X dreadnought, i dont expect to be suddenly able to split my defiant or fleet escort.

#1: What do you mean by Universal? Most C-Store Consoles can be used on any ship, but they are restricted to Tiers. So a T5 Console won't work on a T2 ship - because you can't claim a T5 ship until you are high enough rank to use aT5. The Odyssey Consoles were stated as being solely restricted to the Odyssey. Same for the Bortas.

#2: Answered in #1.

#3: Nothing lets you Separate your Galaxy X. The Dreadnought doesn't have Saucer Sep in yet, but it's coming.

"Universal" doesn't mean it can go on any ship. It means it can go in any console slot on your ship; ie. it's not restricted by Science, Engineering, or Tactical slotting.

I'd suspect the Galaxy-X saucer separation will depend on the Galaxy-R console, considering it's the same family of ships.

what i was attempting to say is that it has been stated time and again that the Galaxy x separation will use an already in game console and that BOTH ships will be needed in order to gain BOTH consoles

the question is WHAT separation console will be needed?

the Exploration Cruise refit (1600c) or the Oddesy refit (2000c) perhaps either will suffice.

the reason i ask is that i already own the EC refit and was wondering if i have to buy another damn ship i wont use for a console i would rather like.

I'm on this forum every day and I don't remember ever seeing a Dev say such a thing. I don't remember Geko saying it in his Podcasts either. You have a link for that?

Each C-Store ship comes with its own Console. The Odyssey is the only ship that has any type of benefit for having more then a single Console.

Mini-rant

Why are people so obsessed with the concept of saucer separation? It was originally intended as a means to get the saucer section (and command) away from ready to explode warp engines, and later as a means of getting the saucer section (and the civilian population of the ship, since star fleet started sending civilian populations on exploration missions) out of harm's way.

Both separated sections would lose shield power (since shield generators are presumably divided between sectons), engine power (since the main impulse drives are on the saucer and warp as well as main reactors on the seconday hull), and firepower (since on the connie, the weapons are all in the saucer).

At least the battle bridge of the D had seat belts.... which for some reason weren't considered important on any main bridge beyond the 'A'

People like it because it transforms a slow-turning whale into a reasonably quick turning Battle Cruiser.

From the horses mouth in STOked

or

sorry genuinely cant remember which one, but the spinal phaser was discussed as being shortened during separation to a "scatter gun" variant as well as the drive section having near escort level manoeuvrability etc.

Which *should* pay for that with reduced shields , engine power, and firepower.. and making you run back to a shipyard if your saucer gets blown up (not to mention having to explain why you sacrificed all those families....)

that's why it makes so much more sense as an Admirals personal ship in the form of the Galaxy X, it functions as a prototype variation on the Multi vector attack mode, her weapons and shields would be specifically buffed and only starfleet crew would be on both sections with no families at all. :p
