And were't you the dude in here last month saying how lame PvP is? Scram!
Ad hominem. That is how I remember some parts of the PvP commuity. :p
Nope, I never said it was lame. I said it was really un-trek due to the enormous influence of powers and the high speed of the encounter that has no room for a captain sitting in his chair, hearing reports and giving verbal commands. But I guess that is too complicated a concept to be understood by everybody.
In the meantime, I have enjoyed a few interesting fights at Ker'rat, and have had some success with my 2 torpedoes plus 2 beam arrays fore and 2 torpedoes plus two beam arrays aft weapon load that I originally only took because it looked just more trek-like. And this weapon loadout has the additional advantage of doing quite some DPS against fixed installations and taking out Borg probes in no time.
The OP and anyone who feels oh so superior really needs to do something else besides blasting newbies away.
Seriously? You cannot think of a situation in this game where you want more forward dps against a lightly shielded or unshielded target?
Please try again.
Sure I can.
And in ANY of those situations, a proper Escort setup is going to be LOADS better than a cruiser's mediocre fore attack. CRF + BO + HYT + APO, that sort of thing is what you use for a "forward dps" setup. Trying to give a cruiser a forward dps setup is just NEVER going to be as effective as that. (And you're going to lose a LOT of broadside potential, which IS going to bite you in the butt sooner or later.) On the other hand, like the panda said, an 8 beam broadside with a good cruiser setup (EPS + 2xFaW + EPtW + DEM, etc) will be WAY more effective against an unshielded target than your forward dps build.
You see, if you need a "forward dps" build, that's fine. There are PLENTY of different ways of doing that well. But trying to do it your way is NEVER going to work as well as an escort "forward dps" build. And your "forward dps" build is NEVER going to work on a cruiser as well as a "heavy broadside" build will. NEVER. Against ANYTHING. It's just the way the game works.
I've been flying a Vorcha for two years, and I've tried pretty much every setup I can think of, and I've talked to all the OPvP guys I can, and I've got to agree with Aldo-Raine on this one.
I'd be happy to let you go against my Vorcha (Or Raptor) ingame any time to test our opposing theories. If I'm wrong, I'd be more than happy to find out sooner rather than later.
There are some great pvpers on both sides, but the average seems lower on fed side indeed.
Half of the fed cruisers I meet in Ker'rat use Boarding Party (often mk III) and don't even balance their shields, neither manually nor with tac team. One (tiny) step above are the people who instantly blow RSP when they are attacked(on full shield, of course), and die 10 seconds after it fades. And then there are the people with Jam Sensors + Evasive Maneuvers as soon as they see a Klingon.
