# 1 Aquarias as a shuttle
03-16-2012, 03:27 PM
Ok, so now that I am flying the Oddy. Which I love BTW. I would like to ask that the Aquarias be placed in the game as a playable shuttle. Makes sense that captains would use that instead of the captains yacht or standard shuttles. Just my 2 GPL.

It's like 140 m long - just a little smaller then a Defiant. It's too big to b a Shuttle. There's been some talk that they might make a new Escort Class from the design at some point, though - but you'd probably need to buy it.

got in first ^^^

The Aquarius is a Escort and has quad cannons if I am not mistaken. I do however agree that I would like to see it sold on its own.

sounds like a concept for a team ship,
5 players comand one ship together. main-hull, saucer, escort, fighter wing and one staring out the window.

i support it being a shuttle type ship rather then a ship at any tier, especially tier 5. even the defiant is more 'general purpose' then this thing, i doubt its designed to operate undocked from it's mothership for more then a single duty shift. its literally meant to be deployed, fight, and then dock. its warp engines are proboly just there so it can separate at warp, fly at warp in formation with its mothership for short periods of time, or go on less then day long missions.

i'd give it a single commander tactical station, that's it. 3 forward weapon slots and 1 aft, 3 tactical consoles, and a single science and engineering console. 20k base hit points, scales with level, blah blah.

it would spank all other shuttle, and has a shot at spanking up to a tier 3 ships too. its a fun toy that exists outside the shuttle category and the ship tiers.

Fighter, but yeah I would like to see this. I can ignore that whole 30 crew thing that happens when launched from Ody version. That is only there for balance purposes.

If it was to be an escort, if would have to be about as resilient as a BoP and no more powerful than a Fleet Escort.

That actually sounds like quite a good idea. A shuttlecraft that you might actually be able to use on missions. And the weapons setup and BOff sounds about right, but wouldn't an ensign universal and LT-CMDR tactical be better so you could have a healing buff?

Better yet make it so when you launch the Aquarius instead of it flying it self you have option for yourself to fly it while the main ship fights by it self.

There's a thread right here that already campaigns the Aquarius becoming playable in-game. Since it's under Dev scrutinery, your chiming on the issue might be more effective there if you want it to happen. As to 'how', that's up for debate. The linked thread has explored the shuttle and escort ideas, and leans more in favor of escort so far.

The Aquarius' small size does not invalidate its presence at Tier 5, seeing how other 'smaller' ships have a spot there as well (B'Rel Retrofit, Jem'hadar Bugship). Many equate it to Defiant-like prowess, and figure the 30-year timespan and photonic crew justifies the more compact design. It being an alternate Defiant configuration, for example, is quite possible in light of what happened between the Multi-Vector Advanced Escort being more science-leaning in comparison to the more tactical Advanced Escort.

As for perceived armament limitations, those are very arbitrary: giving the Aquarius combat pet quad cannons, phaser turrets and a point defense system is something I see as a whimsical mistake on part of the designers behind it as they likely were put to make it 'sound cool'. Truth is, the combat pet never needed them and poorly uses them. Heck, the ship model does has only 2 cannon ports, 8 beam arrays and 4 torpedo launchers so there's nothing there that supports quad cannons (which fire only 2 bolts at-a-time on the Aquarius, not four) or turrets of any kind per default. Therefore, any sellable version is not obligated to come with them to retain credibility as it was an inconsistency to begin with.

Finally, playing as an Aquarius by deploying it would be too much like MVAM works for the Prometheus. It's not going to happen, as the Devs did not wish for the Odyssey's perks to overlap with the MVAEscort. Plus, the engine wouldn't support it; all you'd end up would be with your own ship, you own weapons, but in an Aquarius skin with altered stats... and they're not doing that.

Try the Runabout over the joke Type 8, for a freebie shuttle that is actually useful. I will make one suggestion but retro Borg set and a Harg'peng torpedo.

Failing that you realise the Delta is the most powerful Shuttlecraft in the game right now. 6000 hull is the highest shuttles go to. 1 Sci BOFF, 1 Uni Boff, 3 Consoles and +10% power to shields.

Not sure how the Sci Boff compares to the Eject Plasma on the Yellowstone, but I still would take the Delta personally as I think the Tractor Beam is Garbage.
