Bud, there is nothing wrong with being here for the fun of it. Some folks just try harder (for the fun of it) and those guys are always going to be better than the casual player. That a player has decided to be casual is their choice but you can't dumb down the more hardcore players to suit the casual folks. Whatever system exists will always have a stronger subset of players.

You also can't call people morons. It's not very nice.

1) it helps to have prior pvp experience
2) it helps to read the forums on ship builds
3) STO is very easy and accessible for pvp

Learning pvp is often a shock and a source of frustration because the player comes from a limited or solely pve background. Put simply, players do not react like NPCs. This creates a disconnect in the new pvp-er because he has absolutely nothing on which to draw conclusions.

I won my very first pvp match in STO. I won my second, third, fourth..... .... I believe it was my 12th or so that I finally failed and lost a match. I played both sides. So, pvp in STO is very easy, very accessible, and very conducive to pvp-introduction. Of course, I have over a decade of pvp experience in some of the toughest and unbalanced pvp games on (or previously on) the market.

Other than LOTRO, STO has the easiest pvp to enter in the quest for discovering how to destroy other players.

You can't just zone in and rofl-pwn everything without first considering your build, your BOFF skills, your DOFF space assignments, your consoles, your strategy and your mindset.

if you do not enjoy the pvp pls just do not join us.

dont bother posting on the forums.

dont bother q'ing up.

play another game that suits you, or stick to pve.

we are not here to comfort you. but we are here to help, as you can plainly see by the long list of forum topics, constructive criticisms, and general good natured banter. you ended that with your poor forum etiquette.

Or, go in without these things and get killed in 3 seconds. 3 seconds?

So, you argue "lol l2p noob" and I argue "why the crap should I bother to learn when its going to be a pointless forum grind, followed by a pointless gear/item grind - all the while you are having no fun while being ended in less time it takes to blink." Is this not a game? Is it not meant to be fun? I'll give you some free MMO advice. Low TTL = not fun = ***** game. Its a fact, which seems to elude Cryptik and, apparently, you.

End of. Thats whats wrong with this game. Nobody is asking for some herp derp this is how you pvp for dummies guide. I am a competent gamer, with a long list of MMO's played. But how the hell can I have a chance to learn and play in those 3 seconds it takes me to die? The *only* way to pvp in this game is to research for some hours, tune spec, BOs, ship loadout, playstyle... then play. How about some system where you could actually, i dunno, play the fking game to have some fun and learn as you go? I don't play some casual F2P mmo to trawl through forums all day. I want to queue up and have some fun. Isn't that the point in gaming?

Talking of showing me a dead game, 20 min pvp queues in this one. In a free to play game? Is it any wonder? I'm not surprised given my experience. I bet for every thread like mine there are 100 others who just log off and probably never play again. I mean, why would you? 20 min queues to be 3shot by other folk? Nah. No thanks! World of Tanks is F2P, 30 player pvp matches (STO: 8). Queues take less than 3 seconds on average. Something to wonder about!

At least most people replying can actually see the perspective. You're just a moron.

/soundlyownedwithreason
here's a thought, stop having the reaction time of a brain dead sloth and learn some preventative maintance. Start by cycling Emergency Power to Shields constantly. 2 copies. Every ship. Period.
Second thought. BALANCE YOUR SHIELDS.

Sure people can one shot. That's a pretty rare thing to happen. (infact there's really only a couple of people that can really do it 'reliably'. and most of the time it's cause they "caught someone sleepin" to use one of my favorite vent phrases) However it's all but impossible to die from one shot with even moderate shield tanking going on on your end. Especially in the bigger ships. Hell I can't honestly remember the last time I've been instagibbed in the last few weeks. It happens once in a while... if I'm "sleeping at the wheel". But after that it doesn't happen again.

Gear dependency to get into pvp, is actually really low in STO it's the lowest gear dependent game I've actually played as far as MMOs go. Just get some stuff that correlates to what you are using. Speaking of, your skill tree actually does a very good job at explaining powers to you in terms of what skills give them bonuses, should you some how have a hard time figuring it out beyond the basic description. Top right corner of your skill window there's a drop down menu which brings up a list of all the powers on your ship. Click, and see what gets highlighted.

I also highly doubt you are competent, if you are having trouble with STO. This game has some of the lowest reflex required gaming I've played in an mmo. It's also got a pretty self explanatory skill tree. Cooldown cycles are incredibly long, and forgiving, there's a myriad of defensive buffs to make even an Escort all but invulnerable for a little while. I play STO full on Manual and I still zip through everything more than fast enough.

Also, click the two links in my sig. I'm willing to bet you need the Suck In A Cruiser link. You just scream PvRper to me. You don't even have to go far in the thread before you'd find something infinitely better than the no shield distribution power equipped power trayed lolcruiser you've been flying.

Hell most of us learned by the seat of our pants, with a much more convoluted and messy skill tree than what we have now. If we learned you should be able to as well especially since you have two very easy to access Fonts of Experience to read and benefit from our 2 years of trial and error. You are allegedly a competent gamer after all right?

leveling to cap is a good idea, you get a good feel for the whole game. then make another character and start pvping as soon as you can when its simple and you only have 3 to 5 station powers to keep track of. try doing the majority of your leveling with pvp, and when that character gets to level cap you will be awesome at it, and about 7000 times better at everything in the game then you were when you caped your first character.
^^^ This, you want to get in at the ground floor so to speak, PVP on a character as early as possible so it's as simple as possible, then as you level, things are added incrementally and it's not so overwhelming to learn. Starting to PVP at VA is just soul destroying.

To the OP: This is GOLDEN. I've done it last year once, this year once again. Pvp low level is ridiculously easy compared to lvl 50. Try it and guarantee you'll like it.

OK now you are full of it... how many other MMOs have you played ?

Cryptic gear grind??? hardly.

STO has almost NO gear grind at all... seriously they give you 2 FREE sets for doing PvE, breen or now Jem sets... there not the best sets but there is almost zero time involved in storming through them. You can also play 2-3 rounds of STF missions and get a full set of the Borg STF gear... the only sets you may have to grind are the omega maco/KHG... and its not that intense, and not needed. (They are not the end all be all of pvp like they could have been)

Every other MMO I have ever played had massive gear grinds that involved PVP... so in essences not only where you stomped by people that had been playing longer then you... you also needed too get stomped too earn the gear too be competitive.

If you want too learn too pvp half decently in STO... the gear isn't an issue.. and the learning curve isn't really all that bad.

If you just want to mindlessly pew pew things... go STF or something. lol

I don't care how easy or hard the gear grind is, I am not comparing the gear grind length to other MMOs, I want to have fun playing while I do gear up. I want to be able to play a game where I don't have to read pointless idiots on forums telling me I need to read more stuff in order to have a clue what I'm doing. "you must have slow reactions" Sorry! Didn't realise this was whack-a-mole! Understood, next time I get shot I'll just smash defensive cooldowns until I win! Is that really what you think constitutes good pvp design? "chain cooldowns or you die!" Every other game I've played with good PVP has let me actually *have fun* and hooked me into learning more about the game because its fun, not to make it fun/worthwhile/not-terrible. Even swtor's pvp beats the experience I got here. Even fking WoW's? Lets not even touch on the actual *good* pvp games, WoT, ****, WAR, PS, CoH, CH... shall I go on? You know, the games where people still actually pvp because its fun to play. I assume the 20 minute queues mean there are a whole bunch of people who never pvp. Because its bad.

Let me say again. 3 Second TTL, utterly terrible design. TIME TO LIVE - How long do you live once someone starts smashing you in the face. 3 seconds, not long enough. Full stop! Any game that bases its pvp premise around a 3 second TTL it awful. Yes, I'm sure there are ways to deal with it. I couldn't care less. Why would I keep playing?

Like I said, those of you spouting fanboy defences of the game at me - none of you are saying anything except "read this stuff, educate yourself". You are missing the point.

Game --> Fun ---> Keep playing, be a better player!

Game --> not fun --> ???? Stop playing?

Just sayin'

Then gtfo the forums no one cares what you think.

And for the record I can probably smash someone that's not defending themselves in WOW, RIFT, SWTOR in abit over 3secs with my builds.

Did you know the ques pop pretty often at VA? it's true. the reason people don't pvp in this game is there are no real incentives, and frankly cryptic made such a horrid game at launch Gamers didn't buy it in droves.

There's a reason I'm still here and it ain't the IP. It's the ship combat.

If you can't deal get out.

I hate to burst your bubble, but you probably sucked in those mmos too. Seriously if you can't handle clicking 1 power every 30 seconds you're terribad at gaming.

PVP in this game is totally inaccessible to new players who would rather ***** and moan than learn how to play. have fun OP.

Only person missing the point is you.
