I've been killing them all weekend. I don't see the imbalance.
They are tough if well played but hardly OP.

I've watched BortaSQu been killed as well all weekend.
Niether has been upsetting to PvP.

The Oddysey is a fine ship. Nothing wrong with it. The problem is that it never quite matched whatever niche players had hoped it would fill.

That speaks to a broader issue of relatively small ship selection for such a large player base. There is essentially, only 1 ship per per class per rank.

For example, a captain who wants to fly a cruiser at command rank has one choice and must assume whatever layout that ship offers. In this case I believe it is the Cheyenne class "heavy cruiser." There is no difference between the skin variations you can use (Cheyenne, Stargazer, Dakota) where it matters: BOFF layout, weapons layout, console layout, or even the number of ship items.

I adore the ship customization. However, the "classes" within a rank really don't mean squat, but in reality would make a huge difference. For instance, taken from modern naval composition, we would say that a certain country has 100 destroyers. But of those 100, 20 are the a-class, 30 the Ocean-class, and the other 50 the SUX-2000 class (they bought a bunch for a dollar). Each of those classes was constructed by that navy to fit a certain role - to perform a certain service.

Not saying STO needs to go so far as to force roles or services, but making different classes different so as to allow the player base to explore interesting ways to utilize those differences is what makes a game so much fun.

I haven't had much luck with them. I'm a TAC and normally fly a Retrofit Excelsior, but wanted to try one of Odysseys, so I bought the Tactical Cruiser Odyssey. It's performance was decent, and the more I got used to it the better I did, but it's just "too much" ship if you get my meaning. It's large and bulky, and while I'm sure it can be used to blast the crap out of just about anything that moves, it seems to get in it's own way quite a bit. The little escort is cool, I do have to admit that, but the ship itself just isn't my play style.

So I decided before going back to the Excelsior that I'd try another one of my ships. Tried the Defiant class retrofit. Wow, I really suck at Escorts.

I managed to get killed 5 times before I hit the ground! Seriously, though, I'm really bad with Escorts. Any escort.

The main reason I wanted to try the Odyssey was that my Excelsior just wasn't cutting it anymore. At one point, I could hold my own in a PvP match, at least for a while, but recently, my ship was just getting destroyed with what seemed little effort on the part of other players. I don't know if things were nerfed or if it's just new toys making it easier to blow up other ships, or maybe some people were using exploits, who knows. Either way, I can no longer find the right ship that suits me, and that includes the brand spanking new Tactical Odyssey sitting in my docking bay.

I got them

Engineer healer in Tac Odessy , does a tiny bit more dps than if I used a star cruiser and much the same heals, the survivability in a hard match is very much the same.

Sci in sci odessy, does a little bit more damage on very hard targets over time than a sci excelsior and the survivability is a tiny bit better, but I lose out on snb sometimes due to turn rate and loss of omega.

Tac is in an escort, you can make a ludicrous escort build just now which is very tanky and has very good dps.

To be honest the odessy only makes a very small difference to me and unless your buying from dilithium ( I cashed over 800k) I would think twice about spending the money for so little gain.

that ws Untill the RElease of teh Plus 1 oddy....

now more then ever before it seems if you are not in one you are the target always..

If you pug a pvp match.. you will not get heals from anyone so you will go down very fast.. if you go in with a few of ya mates there only so much you can take before you are dead and feel like you have let the team down..

I bought the plus 1 bundle thinking that finally a tactical cruiser that a tactical officer can use .. Well that might be the case if I wonted to respec my toon every time I use it..

its a shame that it turned out to be such a fail ship for me.. it may suit some but not me.. now if the worker bees could be use on my c-store defiant.. there could be a use for it as for now it will be just in my ship locker forever..

couple that with the FAW 100% never miss issue now that we can miss well it spells get the oddy sorted and use it in pvp or get used to dying all the time very very fast..

Shame Cryptic/Perfect world Shame.....
If you really want a tac in a cruiser, try bortasqu. It is the only cruiser I would fly as a tac. From both factions. Because it can really do much more damage vs all others cruisers. BUT, lol, be ready to take it when the whole opposing team come get you when they see that apa popping out, bc unfortunately, thanks to many wrong builds, this screams "I'm a noob" ...

I'm sorry if many of you go t the Idea I was trying to play the Oddy no I'mnot I'm in Defiant Retro. I have since retrained and rearranged things a lot and can now put the oddy down but it takes a long time .. in a 1 on 1 pvp.

however get into a group ques pvp with some on my fleeties and they go down the same as the rest however a little longer to get em down.. I found for me being tac that the Eng Oddy was the best for my build. I have yet to try the sci though.. I will but it don't look like its going to be of use ..

but I still think the major issue is that FAW is broken.. 100% hit at any range sucks either fix it or put it back teh way it was with everything 100% hit.. make it even playing field...

The last "official" version I heard is that it works as intended and is not supposed to miss. It doesn't have sense for me and also my info may not be good either.

Well as far as the sci version I totally agree with you.But I would like to hear your views on the other two versions. Also I would like to pick your brain and see what you think about the best build for the Jem'Haddar attack ship is.I now see you have vast knowledge that is a asset to the game.
