Well if you want cannons don't take a gal-x. Between the Defiant and the Prometheus...question is do you want some more agility and cloak or do you want some pets with the latter?

I myself prefer and own a MVAE but I like pets, even if their ai sucks in this game lol.

Aye, if you're annoyed with being a beam boat, then you probably won't want the Dreadnought. She does make an awesome beam boat though... 8 beams on mine, oh yeah!

Even though the Dread can use cannons and dual cannons, it's turn rate is so dismally horrible, that if I didn't LOVE the ship as a Trekkie, I would demand a refund for buying something non-canon /begin sarcasm while being assured it was approved by CBS to turn so horribly. /end sarcasm

If you wanna blow things up with big and fast booms and tons of speeding about, go the escort route. Which escort you choose though, I cannot help with. I do love my tactical's Defiant Refit though..

i just can decide, i really like galaxy x, but would love to use cannons for maximum dps, and have a better hull then defaint and mvam.

galaxy x is canon...appears in the last episodes of TNG.
it's a very good cruiser, but if you want to go high burst and high killcount go for an escort.

defiant retrofit is more PVP oriented in my opinion and is an overall nice ship, a good choice anyway.

the multivector is a cool escort for science captains, or any captain that uses science abilities like gravity well, etc (its the only escort that can use ltcdr sci abilities)

but at the end it boils down to the syle question.

PS: i have both. mvae with my science and the defiant with my tactical

I was being sarcastic about it's turn rate being canon, not the ship itself.

if you want cannons use a escort, MVAM is the best due to MVAM and the ability to use gravity well 1.
The cannons on the galaxy-x are a waste due to really needing the ability to use CRF 2 or CSV 2 or above to get real benefits out of them. Plus a decent turn rate you'll spend most of the time in a galaxy with either your backside to most targets of broadsiding them so beams on the gal is the way to go

Except possibly in STFs. That's like the only place where you'll find that the enemies actually turn SLOWER than your Ody or Gal-X. In which case your Dreadnought begins to play like an oversized Escort, a Negh'Var wannabe, and/or a Sovereign with lower turn rate and a huge gun that it can fire every few minutes.

@OP:

If you plan to PvP, get the Defiant.

If you don't, get the MVAE.

Getting another cruiser when you already have one is not going to give you the results you are looking for.

If you didn't already know, MVAM has a 10 minute cd on the mode used and a 5 min shared cd on the 2 modes not used. Bad game design at play here; making sure you're informed. She's still pretty good as a DPS attack ship while not in mode, thankfully.
