Okay, so, ignoring the invective, please explain why escorts have 15-0 scores in every PvP, and no other ships come close. Explain why escorts have damage scores of 500,000+ and other ships are lucky to get to 200,000, most below 100,000.
Because escorts are designed to do the killing, the cruisers try to get escorts to waste their time trying to kill them instead of the sci ships and escorts, and the sci ships keep the cruisers alive and help set up kills for their escorts.
I think the balance is mostly okay right now, but one thing that bugs is me is that endgame escorts have a hull strength of around 30,000 and endgame cruisers have a hull strength around 42000. Why are those numbers so close? The huge slow tanks should have more damage capacity or the escorts should be squishier. I think the former would be preferable (maybe up cruiser hulls to 50k? or give them a baked-in 20% resist to all damage.)
Because StarArmy, even if a Escort can tank, it cannot tank nearly as well as a cruiser.
Base is base, a Cruiser have a Commander Engineering Station as Escort only goes as far Lieutenant ... a cruiser can heal itself faster that any escort can do, never mind they only get 2 console slots (and one will be devoted to Monotanium Alloy) and only 2 devices slots.
If you buff a Cruiser you can forget about anyone every killing them again, if you cripple the escorts nobody will fly the exploding ships.
Another nerf the escort thread? seriously escorts have been hit with the nerf bat what 10 times since launch at least and people still cry about losing to them? really some folks need to learn about ship building or stay out of pvp because honestly i''ve seen escorts get blown up just as fast by someone in a well spec'd cruiser.
My explanation for the imbalance is that escorts are at once fastest, most well armed, and have the best effective shield strength. Put differently, at the end of the analysis and considering everything, escorts do the most damage, and are hardest to kill. These facts completely and fully explain the imbalance in numbers we observe, without having to speculate that all good players fly escorts. If you dispute this, lets hear a concrete, numbers-based explanation of why its not true.
Reason for Escorts to be the fastest and most manuverable: they weigh the least and have fewer useless systems and crew on board. Lower inertia=higher speeds and quicker turns.
Reason for Escorts to have strong shields: Inverse square law, and simple surface area. Take a shield generator that is 1/4th as powerful as that on the Galaxy class, have it project its bubble on a sphere of 1/10th the surface area, 1/5th as far away from the generator. In truth, the escort shields are WEAKER than they should be, and use too much power.
Most damage: Since they are low inertia leetle ships, that don't have to use shield generators anywhere NEAR the size of those on a cruiser or science vessel, they can shunt more power to powering their weapons. Remember, in lore the Defiant had engines so powerful they were warping the structure of the ship. Also remember in lore that the Defiant had no science labs, a minimal infirmary, no holodecks, no serious cargo bays. In other words, none of the bloat that exist on typical starfleet ships.
That said, I agree on the comparison of escort to dreadnaught. Cryptic designed the dreaddy with a special spinal mount phaser, and the ability to mount cannon. In theory, they should have top-level DPS given the roll laid out by their in game design, much less the lore. So what does cryptic do? Gives them BOFF slots that can barely do anything with the cannon, much less anything else. It is a terribly mixed up ship, and I really wish Cryptic'd fix it.
