I have both but I have been using the Point Defense System lately as it does more damage. But I don't like the cool down.

However, is the 45 plasma damage done by the ADT enough to take out torpedoes and incoming projectiles? Plus, does the ADT do a good job of making a judgment call stop shooting my primary target to take out an incoming projectile or boarding party?

If so, I will go back to ADT.

ADT: automatic, short range, constantly on, takes a tac console slot, low damage
PDS: click to use, cooldown, universal console, longer range, more damage

The problem with the automated defense turret, is that need a tactical console slot,... for that, it is on my bank getting oldder.

If your primary need isnt dps, you can set it (both of them work on tandem is a great defense, but really is more easy use it on science where you have another skills to compensate a less damage. In STF that "duo" work very well (and with future STF with undine... it will better.

If you go in a cruiser, you need every dps that you can take. If you go on escort, you need that dps to live do you work. In a science vessel you cant carry DC or DHC, and you carry less weapons slot, also dps loss per minute isnt to efect if you dont use a tactical console as ussual, and that will enchance your odds to survive (and that you can use more powers and help more to your team).

At least I think so.

Yeah, I think I'll get it out of mothballs and give it a try again. It was great at the lower levels but I guess it's just a matter of testing it against those tricobalt torpedoes and boarding parties (and those damned Borg balls-o-death).

I just hope that the 45 plasma damage is enough to deal with later game enemies (i.e. I hope their projectile HPs don't scale with their damage).

It's enough to kill endgame torpedoes. Only targetable projectiles that can take a hit are that one Klingon special weapon and B'ger's giant plasma ball.

I actually used it for a while, even though it meant giving up a DPS console. I personally found I didn't need it that often and the point defense console was available often enough 90% of the time, and it's also useful in a lot of other situations. But the automated turret does have the benefit that it still has a good shot at saving you if you screw up. If you screw up with the point defense console, you're eating a torpedo.

The first time I ran 'Operation Gamma', I was in a runabout without FAW on advanced difficulty and I got my handed to me by the swarmers. I slotted my ADT and it was a cake walk after that. I also use it when doing Romulan/Reman space missions. It absolutely is effective against their plasma HY torps.

It definitely has its uses, but I don't keep it slotted generally.

Edit: It works against Undine HY torps as well.

I have both mounted on my ship... It's absoluteley awesome for KA, Good for Infected and somewhat ok for Cure...

I would never dream about bringing it to PvP... because I very rarely PvP.

Ok use brace for impact or evasive and use the slots for better consoles that will give you better returns.
