Hello Cryptic and STO community!

Currently the TEAM DPS necissary to complete a STF elite w/ optional is 10k - 11k depending on instance. So last night a few of my buddies and I were bored and decided to 3 man all of the elite STF's and see if we could get the optionals. We ran 2 tac defiant retrofits and 1 tac oddysey cruiser, all beam boats of course (as they are the highest DPS and best AOE) with a combined team dps of 16.5k (with just 3 of us - 6k for the 2 defiants 4.5k for our tanking cruiser.)

The result...

Cure Elite - 5:38 seconds left on optional (by far the easiest)
Infected Elite - 3:48 seconds left on optional
Ka Elite - 4:38 seconds left on optional

Now considering this is STO's endgame PvE content, it was slightly dissappointing. Especially since between the 3 of us, we only died 1x during the three instances. So what do I think should be done?

1.) Implementing a death timer is a good start, one of the biggest reasons why people are so bad at STO is simple, because they can be. Everything is so easy that it really doesnt matter what you do or how you build or how you play. The death timer makes it so players actually have to consider death as a bad thing, (No more flying at the invulnerable cubes in cure spamming weapons and dying over and over again)

2.) Add shield HP and hull HP to the borg, Really, 3 people shouldnt be able to complete any endgame content no matter how 1337 we are, thats silly.

3.) Best in slot weapons or gear should ONLY be dropped in the optional pot instead of doff missions. This force splayers to care to complete optionals. As much as I love doff missions it's really wierd that you get the best consoles in the game through annoying doff missions instead of difficult combat scenarios.

4.) Make elite STF's a stepping stone to more advanced PvE content. Give us a fight we couldnt possibly win unless everyone had MKII gear, and even then, make it so we have to use defensive skills wisely, have healers, tanks, disablers just as important as high DPS tac's. Force us to retreat, manage our power levels and skills more effectively. If people just want to facesmash their keyboards and not care how good they are thats fine. But don't put good players in the same league, give us something more, something to work for.

-- Captain Picard was the best because he managed his skills, the skills of his crew, his ship and tactics effectively. If you want to be true to ST lore, then our players shouldn't be able to get away with being jackasses.

*** Free to play has given you a new opportunity with a great new player base. Trust me, we will get bored and move on if the extent of endgame gameplay are a few doff missions and killing all the noobie lifetimes in PvP. ***

Want to make money?? Make the game more difficult.

Sounds like you're just used to running them. Things don't seem difficult when you know them intimately.

For the really experianced players with active fleetmates or friends who all know what to do to complete the optional and everything all of the STFs can seem easy.
When we do any of them as a Fleet we always do well and almost never fail the optional.
When you don't have enough fleeties to do it with and you join the average PUG where everyone isn't so experianced or knows exactly what to do, it's usually a clusterf*** and it can take 20-30 min just to finish, if it's not outright failed because some dolt really scewed up and let the Kang die or too many probes thru the gate.
IMOHPO, the Elite versions are at the correct difficulty as is.
Not impossible for the rookies and not too easy for the Vets.
I don't believe raising the difficulty on any of them will have a positive impact, probably just the opposite.

Now, if we could just get more vets to advise those less knowledgeable rather than belittling them when they make mistakes everyone would benefit.

While yes, STF Elite can be 'easy' "If You Know What Your Doing", Point #2 Is simply the worst thing its going to do, simply adding 'RAW' HP and shield HP isn't the way to go, cause all it does is make it take an extra volley or two from higher DPS ships, and extremely difficult for Ships that simply can't output the same Damage. (Namely Science ships). If you want to make it difficulter, what should be done is improving the Resistances of Shields/Hulls, so that the effective HP is the same, but still makes it not 'ridiculously difficult' for ships that aren't capable of same output of a Escort or Tact/Cruiser. Also making smaller units make use of Shield balacing or to the side that damage is coming to, would help 'difficulty'.

Oh H**L no, you want a challenge do a PUG group. Not all of us have a normal set of people we can run STFs with.

Exactly, u want a challenge jump into the que!!!! You won't get the optional let alone with all that time left.

Who were the other 2 people that helped you start the stf. You have to have 5 to start!!! Did you just ask 2 random people to join and then ask them to leave once it was started. Sounds far fetched to me!!!!! Especially with all that time left.

This. The only Elite I'll even PUG is Infected. Cure and KA fail way to much with a PUG.

I think they need to make another difficulty, for both STFs, and regular missions. Id like to see MASTER difficulty or something.
