Okay, love my cruiser and being an engineer first off. I have even spent a lot of time experimenting with using a Fleet Escort for a while. Learned lots, first of which is that as an Engineer Captain, it feels right to be inside a badass Sovvy. With that, my DPS is lacking during PVP, so I am looking to up it a little. I am questioning getting rid of all my Tetryon beams for Phasers. The question is, for cruiser DPS in PVP (i know im not an escort, looking for a more efficient build) is phaser a better bet then tetryon? Current weapon spread:

Fore: 1 DBB Tetryon 3 BA Tetryon all MK XI VR
Aft: 4 BA Tetryon MK XI VR

I am thinking of changing this to reincorporating Quantum or transphasic torps for a possible build of:

Fore: 1 DBB 2 BA 1QT/TT or 2 BA 2 QT/TT
Aft: 3 BA 1 QT/TT

This would also mean changing my Tac boffs from TT1, BO1, APB1 to something with HYT...maybe HYT1, BO1, APB1 or FAW1, BO1, HYT2,

Thoughts? I'm planning on using APtID for better turn rate and one RCS console. Just after a boost to dps as since I have gone to beam boat...I've been doing rather poor, except for mah fat heals which are still fat.

If you could post what cruiser(s) you're considering, it would help tremendously. The end-game cruisers can play very differently.

As per an RCS console - for what it's worth, at least for the Assault Cruiser (and maybe T5 Excelsior), I would recommend one high-level (Mk XI blue or higher) RCS, even though some would say I'm a gibbering madman. I think that it gives it a edge that puts it in a certain sweet spot, though more than one would be a great sacrifice for minimal gain.

Get 8 beams, and run 2 copies of BFaW... It's about the most dps you can get out of a cruiser. Also consider DEM for extra dps, although DEM is probably more useful for cannons, but it's still ok for beams.

For an Assault cruiser, 3 beam arrays fore, 1 torp. 3 beam arrays aft, 1 torp. It really is just that simple.

I am in the same process actually. I think my old sauvy will be sweet. One thing I know is that Weapon Specialization spec increases crit rate tremendously. While it is a tough sacrifice, I choose it over engine performance points. Also, accuracy is a must. You must spec into Starship Targeting systems. If you want a cruisar with great turning though you should check into an Excelsior, also a great boat and the added Lt Cm Tac slot opens all kinds of possiblities.

oh, add weapon power alone will not gain u as much dps as the right skill points will

I have no idea, why you dont have both 9/9 in Weap Spec and 6/9 in engines,

9/9 give u +25crit %,

Am I correct in assuming that Impulse thrusters skill boost engine performance and turning while engine performance skill only boosts engine power level?
