Well, I am a 200+ veteran first off, so I am NOT a noob.... I PVP. PVE, and am Vice Admiral 50...
Now, I go plunk down $50 for the Odyssey three ship pack, load it up with the BEST bridge guys, good buffs and consoles (I read the forums semi-weekly) and weapons and I am stoked... THEN I load up a PVP.... THREE SHOTS FROM A GUY and my shields go to zero and I blow up in my NEW BIGGEST cruiser EVER build before I even knew someone had targeted me?!?! What is wrong with this pic?? THIS IS NO WAY I should die in THREE hits - I don't care what buffs, weapons, or skills you have NO CRUISER should die that quick... this is JUST no way STAR TREK like or fun...
So thinking it was a fluke, I played more and it happened OVER and OVER... this is SO unbalanced as to make PVP unplayable!! I pay $50 for a TOP OF THE LINE CRUISER that dies FASTER then my light cruiser (yes, I tried a LT. GRADE ENTERPRISE CRUISER AT VICE ADMIRAL level and I LAST LONGER!!) or tactical escort... does anyone else see a problem here??! UNTIL this is FIXED, I for one WILL NOT PAY THIS GAME ANOTHER dime and have dropped from GOLD to SILVER and will no longer pay a $15 monthly fee to get killed in THREE shots over and over...
I saw a match last week where an Odyssey was tanking 4 people. You got blown up in 3 shots. If I were you I'd read through some of the Odyssey build threads rather then blaming the ship.
I read ALL the forums on Odyssey builds - and I don't care how crappy your build is a SHIP that BIG should NOT die with 3 SHOTS with FULL shields and hull - NO WEAPON does (or should) do that much damage!!
AEGIS system (All 3 pieces - shield, deflector, engine)
Engineering Consoles: Worker Bee Console, 3 Mark XI RCS accelerators
Science Consoles: Universal Separation Console, Neutronium Mark XI (rare), Field Generator Mark XI (rare, 35% max shield capacity)
Tactical Console: Aqaurius Escort Console, 2 Mark XI Rare Phaser Relays (I run 6 phaser arrays, 3 fore and 3 after (all mark XI rares) with a rare mark XI quantum torp DMGx2 fore and aft
First, the AEGIS is an OK set but one of it's buffs is Defense - something not overly necessary for the barn that is an Odyssey. You'd be better mixing pieces from different sets that have more individual purpose - or using STF pieces, IMO.
Second, the Science Cruiser is actually more offensively powerful then the Tac version - and more defensively powerful.
Third, you're Engineering Consoles are full of turn buffs rather then resistance buffs. I assume you're using the Saucer Sep, which gives the Odyssey a descent turn without the RCS. Those are 3 wasted Console slots - and not having resistance buffs is part of the reason you're squishy. And if you're going to have 3 Tac Console slots you shouldn't waste one on an Aquarius Escort console.
We also don't know what your settings are: Weapons, Shields, etc. We also don't know what you're BOFF set up is or your Captain type - though I'm assuming Tactical. Nor do we know what you're captain Skills are set at. How many EPtS do you have on your ship? How many AtSIF or heals? What values, etc. There's dozens of things that go into outfitting a ship and making it effective. Choosing the ship is only step 1.
Thanks for the ideas BUT I did not post my officers because I DID not get to use them - I simply moved towards the enemy, then with LITERALLY 3 hits, my shields were GONE (over 8000 by the way) and my hull as well... which makes NO SENSE AT ALL - there is NO weapon that should / can do that damage - and it was NOT once - it was over and over... this is unbalanced and I agree with the guys above PVP this past few weeks is UNBALANCED to the point people will avoid it like the plague - and ALL other forum reads on here and other forums say the AEGIS (all 3 together) is the best shield mix still because of all the benefits... do you know something I don't? The stats for all three are better then any other mix I have found... and I know the science has better stats for some things, but for my style the tactical works better (I am a tactical officer by the way)
And without the 3 RCS consoles the SHIP does not turn AT ALL... and yes, I use the saucer separation AND the escort - neither lasts very long in PVP so you really do need bother and with the cooldown, having the turn bonus is a necessity...
There is nothing wrong with the odyssey. With the right build they are amazingly difficult to bring down. If you really are dying in 3 hit then your build is utterly worthless. If you did not useaany boff powers then you are flying wrong. You shoud at a minimum always have emergency power to shields running.
