So Tac consoles are going to be changed so warhead doesn't affect science ability kinetic damage.

Virus Matrix is now regarded as a joke -- easily fixed with Science Team, also doesn't affect shields and is a mild hiccup otherwise.

Gravity Well does minimal damage and the repel is resisted with a number of abilities, plus isn't very powerful (even GW III). It's ok against probes and some other pve stuff, but not great.

Field generator stacking is going to cut into the consoles that actually help science abilities (which, as already noted, are already weaker).

So... now what?

I officially declare 2012 the Year of Nerf! Its the realization of reality that we can't just fly any one ship that is Uber above the rest. Those days are over. Now people need to actually really look over their loadouts more so then ever before to get the best comprise possible. I'm a science and fly a deep space science vessel with 3 field generators and my Borg Console in my science slots. My abilities maybe weaker, but they still get the job done even if they are less effective then they could be. My priorities are perhaps different then others as I'm not a huge PvP'er and I need my strong shields for those critical hitting Elite STF torpedoes that the Borg fire at you. Unless Cryptic Nerfs those, I'm keeping my field generators.

The power ships and the power builds will still exist. You may have to adjust your playstyle to them, but they will still be there.

This post about sums it up:

Those sci console slots really were useless on cruisers and some escorts. Now, they're just a place to stack field gen consoles. You didn't make them useful, you just nerfed sci ships a little more, that's all.

Grav Well = Mostly useless now. Even stacking graviton generators, I can't hold anything that has an engine on it. Thank you inertial dampeners... I think
Native BTS = Mostly useless now, thanks to resists, again.
Sci Fleet = No longer boosts sci powers, and hasn't since the skill tree revamp. Previously you recieved a buff to "Starship Operations" which boosted all your sci abilities.
Sci Team = See Above - now only useful to cleanse debuffs or as a burst shield heal
Tyken Rift = Mostly useless... again (resistance is working, 75% lol)... but it was a nice couple of days
Tachyon Beam = Mostly useless... this one isn't resists. This goes back to being unable to buff it. You had to to make it useful before the skill tree revamp.

I might be mistaken, but TT still gives a damage buff. ET still gives a Hull Repair buff. Same for Tac Fleet and Engineering Fleet.

I really feel like I'm being nerfed into uselessness over here.

So, I guess my question is... Is it working as intended that SNB, CPB, PSW and TSS (TSS is marginal with the LTC uni slot on the Oddy) are the only reasons left to fly a Sci toon in a Sci Ship?
Adding to this list: the 30 second immunity to confuse abilities that was recently released, and don't forget that science ships already have less weapon slots than the other ship classes.

Long story short: science ships are getting the shaft for some reason.

My guess is that they are trying to destroy the current science ships so that they will be able to better sell a +1 version.

+1 console versions of current science powers IMO.

Want a working GW or Tykens? Buy the ship with it on the C-store!

Honestly I still fly several of the different ships. Nebula, Recon, Intrepid, Ka'Fri...

They all still seem to hold their own. Each ship has it's own special gifts, however I would like to see some additional science ships added to the game. Seems the cruisers got a fair amount of love in the most recent releases. Perhaps some new Tactical and Science ships are in the works.

Though I realise that it may be wishful thinking I am holding on to the hope that, if they introduce it, the Vesta class would be added as a Science ship.

It's fair to say that the options for T5 Science ships are.... lacking.

From the times I play I'm seeing fewer and fewer science ships and officers around.
STFs are dominated by Tacs and Engisneers in Odysseys.

Have to admit, I flew Science ships pretty much exclusively until the Science Odyssey was introduced, and I'll probably stick with my Science Oddy unless they introduce the Vesta-class to fill the all but vacant T5 science slot.

I somewhat get the impression that Science is slowly being changed into pure support rather then having a lot of offensive potential with its BOFF abilities - not that its still not powerful in leveling PvE. Now we have aggro-drawing Skills and more supportive Science Vessels. It kind of seems like Cryptic is pushing the game more toward the Trinity. That's just my impression, anyway.
