Well i have stop playing my science toon altogether because she feels weak in those science ships of hers. now i play my engineer more in her cruiser which can tank and do much damage then my science. Am not touching my science unless i feel its been improved.

I have to say, the 'downgrading' of Science abilities certainly makes the Science Odyssey look like an attractive prospect* Perhaps that is what they're aiming for?

* I fly one and would have to say that the changes to the science powers don't seem quite as significant as a result.

This is my personal thought, but its been clear at least to me that this game is about DPS, the more you have the more you get done. The game is designed around this for the most part. Want an easier STF? More DPS, want a faster mission? More DPS. Its really not surprising however, considering the game is based on the same engine as CO, where, guess what, DPS is king. heck in CO you have to be a gold to even get a full heals character.

Just my thoughts but to me, its poor game design.

yeah but i like my fast turn rate of my science ships. i can't see myself flying a cruiser as a science officer.

Science vessels have never been worth it in PvE (not that it matters because you can beat PvE in anything)

Now they are on the brink of not being worth it in PvP too.

For me it is looking like that Cryptic is trying to kill the Science officer class and the ships.

The thing is, the best support ships are already cruisers. So if we're going for holy trinity, it's escort, cruiser (tank build), cruiser (heal build). That's awesome. :/

Maybe I'll actually try a viral matrix build. It's considered weak, but if everything is weak... may as well.

Viral Matrix has been "fixed" that it is nearly useless now.

Had an interesting few hours on STO today. I generally fly a Science Odyssey but decided to pull my old Nova Refit (Rhode Island type) out of mothballs as fancied revisting the ship that got me through the earlier parts of the game.

Anyway - I stuck mkX antiproton beam arrays on her, a mkXI quantum torpdeo launcher forward and a mxXI rapidfire transphasic launcher aft, my Ageis set (with visuals off) and took her into Cure, Infected and Khitomer Space. Only received one snide remark about my Nova (refit) flying alongside Oddy's, Dreadnoughts etc etc. Anyway - was very pleasantly surprised - granted, I went bang a few times, but kitted out the way she was, she was surprsingly effective, especially when using the sub-system targeting. Certainly, in Cure Space I was making mincemeat of the assimilated BOP's.

Reinforces my opinion that tthe Nova is somewhat underestimated!

Many of the T2 ships are quite good. I have an alt that still uses his Exeter at VA. I believe Grand.Nagas also used has an alt that uses the Exeter. The thing about STO is that in PvE you can be quite effective even without all the extra BOFF abilities a T5 ship normally grants you. In Normal mode and with autofire on I can practically sleep though combats even when using my T2 Exeter.

Plus I've grown bored with the T4 choices (Galaxy, Defiant, Intrepid) and will often use a T2 or T3 ship for the Captain Rank just to add some variety. One thing I really think STO needs is more ship choices rather then just skins at the early levels.
