my plea for plasma, made at least 4 times in hopes a dev will notice

i like what was done with poloran and tetryon weapons, getting their proc boosted by a science skill, and that proc also being countered by another skill, theoretically.

but... what about plasma? why didn't it get boosted by particle generators or something? the proc tool tip just sais it has a chance to deal a tiny pit of plasma damage, that fluctuated based on skill points, tactical consoles and weapons energy level. the energy weapons don't appear to cause a dot anymore as far as i know, their proc is just additional damage, applied strait to the hull?

tetryon can deal 250+ proc damage to shields after some flow cap specing, plasma deal something like 10-40 extra damage to... hull? what is it even doing anyway? shields have much fewer hitpoints then hull, so this looks kind of backward.

tetryon and plasma seem like they could be counterparts, tetryon dealing extra shield damage, plasma dealing extra hull damage. but plasma just feels unfinished right now, and without a skill buffing its proc, it basically doesn't have a proc. is this a work in progress or something that got missed?

it also doesn't help that the 4 most popular shields have built in resistance to it. can the borg's energy damage become its own unique type so those shields can be made to guard against it instead? currently they make a playable energy type, plasma, all but unusable.

I have only just started but I am up to Captain. I have a Defiant Escort and plasma weapons with all plasma tac consoles. I seem to do an obscene amount of damage in war zones and pve, I come away winning most battles with klingons (in the ker'rat warzone) even outunumbered. I like the DoT values that eat away at targets even after they have passed my weapons arc. I have tried other damage types but they don't seem as good as the plasma cannons/torps/mines combo I am using.

What am I missing? Is there something else I should be using?

My build is 3x Plasma Cannons (180 degree arc), and 1x Plasma Torpedo up front. 1x Plasma Turret and 1x Plasma Mine in the back. 3x plasma tac consoles (+17% each). Then resistance mods in the engineering consoles.
at level cap the 4 most popular shields have a 20% resistance to your energy type. and you should really be using duel heavy cannons, they will deal so much more damage then single cannons

....why were you using single cannons on an escort?

no, all energy types have the same type of weapons, single cannons, duel cannons, duel heavy cannons, beam arrays, duel beam banks.

the single cannon you are using is basically a cannon intended for cruisers to use, if they don't want to use beam arrays. its larger firing arc favors their slower maneuvering ability, wile more narrow arc duel cannons, and duel heavy cannons favor as escorts very good maneuverability.

your just using a cannon weapon that's a lot weaker then the cannons you should be using, regardless of energy type. go compare the damage output of your single cannons to some duel cannon and you will see.

Well, that is a discussion for another thread. But thank you for answering my original question. I wasn't aware of the 20% resists at higher levels.

ya, the 3 stf sets and the borg set have the resistance so they are useful against the borg, the side effect is that player use plasma is also resisted. enjoy plasma weapons wile you can.
