They're on the Exchange for high prices. Duty officer prices in general have gone way up lately. They're also available randomly from the duty officer recruitment system. And, if you get to the highest level of the right duty officer commendation category, there is probably a purple projectile weapons officer available at the Academy store.

I don't know if any missions have them as rewards.

Luck. Exchange or more likely

EDC's get you a liberated Borg DOFF Blue (20) and Purple (40) for both Security Officer and Projectile on DS9.

The Gamma quadrant pack from the 2800 has a blue for a 20% chance at 4s off torpedo recharges.

Even a pair of greens would probably be OK.

If The Game reflected the Series and films roughly 20% of ships would be science vessels.
My experience of fleet actions is still limited , but my Science ship has survived them and in two instances been the ship doing the damage while the cruisers (who did their best) got plasma torped into oblivion over and over again.

If you like your science ship stick to it
learn its powers
learn its weaknesses.
Also remember that you ARE part of a team
if someone is taking a kicking Help them out

I've been playing in the RSV in STFs and been doing well. Usually get the bonus if the other people know what they're doing. A few people have even thanked me for using all the powers to stop nanite spheres even if I didn't out right destroy them.
I also equip the point defense console, it can help kill a couple probes if your firepower is lacking

TYA for the advice. This means that I might not need to grind a ton before trying STFs, mostly practice them before I tackle the Elites...

So now, some build advice please...

Condensed relevant stats: RSV. The one with a Lt. Engie and a Lt & Ens Tac, along with Cmdr and Lt. Sci. Engie is running EPtS 1 & 2, for limited shield tanking. Primary science powers are GW 3, Scramble Sensors 1 (for AoE hold / attack, typically used against groups of small targets, aka probes), Syphon power 1, tractor beam 1, Breen Power syphon from full set, planned set of Polarons for power-starving larger targets. HE 1 as hull heal. Got the [Borg] Plasma torp off the MACO vendor with my "joining Omega" freebie, and one of my Tac Ens. slots goes to overload torp 1 for the heavy plasma torp. Skills are relatively generalist, only 9's I have are in gravity and particle generation (for focus on GW III - Tyken's III if it'll help my power draining more than the GW does), avoided the threat generation skill (don't want aggro, leave that to the Engie - want to snipe from obscurity) and mainly 3's in the Tac skills...

What I've learned - GW and Syphons are all deflector powers. Therefore, if I'm in power-lockdown, I can't reliably snare with GW, and if I'm snaring, my main syphon is out of action. When I'm "on" with my syphons, I can more-or-less keep a Unimatrix (from sector randoms) power starved enough to not release regen probes and still toss the occasional GW for extra damage, and I don't even have my full Polaron set yet. GW III and scramble sensors, combined with a lucky (for me) set of resist fails and the higher damage of end-game enemies means that the probes are fairly self-mangled before I really engage them in PvE, one falls to my weak-but-not-starved weapons before the GW ends. Also, a later syphon on the small mobs enhances my damage once the power boost effect kicks in. Wondering if I should stockpile on the GW-echo DOffs, it looks nice when I form up 2 GW IIIs off one pass, and I don't see much for syphon-helping DOffs. Limited shield-tanking skills and a well timed HE / BFaW has kept me from being one-shotted by the super-heavy Unimatrix plasma bolt (either blasting it to oblivion with BFaW, or allowing me to wind up with 25% hull if I get a full shield in place. Goal is to avoid aggro, while attempting to maximize utility. Only real effective ship heal I've poked with is extend shields, which I can't grasp the utility of, it seems to minorly delay the inevitable for whoever's targetted and it wastes my sensor analysis buff.

If you finish the colonization chain for Khazan Cluster you get a blue one, and the follow-up support missions in that zone give purple projectile officers on crit. There's also a Ghosts of the Jem'Hadar chain that rewards a purple projective officer at the end.

And as others have mentioned, there's a blue from the 4th mission in the 2800 series, purples and blues available for EDC, and then there's always random luck.

Ah, so I have a 40% chance to either reduce the cooldown time from 6 seconds to either 2 or 3 seconds. Better than waiting a full 6 seconds.

Hopefully I can get my console soon enough.

I have a tactical character that's flown science ships since lieutenant commander with the nova. After hitting rear admiral lower half 4 (44) last night, I ended up caving in and buying a star cruiser, and it can put out three times the damage my DSSV could.

At lower levels, having dual gravity wells (1 and 3) was nothing short of awesome, it tore apart groups of enemies quicker than most weapon combinations could on an escort or cruiser. Problem is that the science abilities dont scale for crap in comparison to weapon damage - my gravity well was doing almost the same damage at rear admiral as it was at commander.

The changes to science abilities, skills, and consoles over the past year or so have just ruined science as an offensive playstyle. The best you can do now is focus on support and healing, because you wont pull off the same damage as you could in a cruiser or escort.
