Not quite true there, you will have 2 chances at 20% rather than a 40% chance, but that being said they could both proc at once and you'd get a 5s cooldown.

Think of it like this, if you roll a die for every Projectile Boff and on a 6 you get a reduction, the more dice you have the more chance you have of rolling a 6, but 2 dice does not give you double the chance it gives you 2 chances.

And yes before anybody pipes up I'm aware rolling a 6 on a die is not a 20% chance. But 5 sided dice aren't exactly common.

I've never once heard anyone, on any team I've been on complain that there is a science vessel with us and that they are hurting the team.

I'm sure people like this exist, but outside of the PUG queue (which should be avoided), I think you would need to be actively searching for these people.

Here's my advice:

1) Play the ship/character you want to play.
2) Have a solid build that is focused to at least do something very well.
3) Know the STF tactics, know your build.
4) Communicate with your team.

That's about it.

There is NO Elite Space STF that cannot be completed by a good mix of professions/ships as long as you have players that know what they're doing.

I concur that you'll cop grief in a PUG for bringing a Science Vessel. Even when you're also tanking because they're doing such weak damage in their Escort. Luckily, ignore list works well at suppressing this kind of person even if it doesn't prevent you ending up running with them again. PUG'ing is a bit of a sewer anyway so I just take it in my stride.

I got so sick of this abuse (Around 1:20 "Thanks for the Support" : "WTF noob why a Science vessel? (usually in a team with 3+ rainbow cruisers + me)") that I got and outfitted myself an Escort for STF use (DPS is king anyway and I can use anything I get to outfit the ship I actually want to fly).

I've not encountered it as much in the dedicated matchmaking channel, although I have still seen:
1) People telling me my part in a strategy, me performing that part, then being yelled at for doing what I was told to by them (including racial abuse)
2) Being grilled immediately on invite to a private match about what kind of character I flew and what ship. Eventually being told "Why are you playing a Science Captain? Tactical not 50 yet?". /Ignore. 2 other people left that match and he was still looking for his first match after I had all 3 space elites on lockout.
3) Elitists who expect me to have bought C-Store ships otherwise I'm just useless.

Science hate is alive and well out there - but haters are always going to hate, so whatever.

I've yet to hear it. But then, I have a science ship with weapons power set to 120 and rip through shields like no one's business.

I swapped back to my DSSV recently and no one comments about it in STFs. Granted It looks nothing like a DSSV, but no one complains either when a Tac cube sits there and does nothing for 30 seconds in a row, and the rest of the time the tac cube has me in its targets and I don't blow up. Last KA I played I was able to summon and kill all four elite cubes before a single transformer was made vulnerable (which is just sad), and it only took 6 minutes on the timer.

My Tac can do tremendous amounts of damage, but I can get the optionals just as often on my sci because I can make everything so much easier.

By running at full weapon power you're running at lower auxiliary power, which means you're lowing your ability to buff, debuff, and cc. So basically you're flying a cruiser, except with 2 fewer weapon slots... so why not just fly a cruiser at that point?

The power levels I'm running are 125 120 90 125, and I have an entire commander level bridge officer to use that with. You can get those power levels on an Odyssey, but can't do anything with that but run Aux2SiF3, and while 40% resists and 7.5k heal every 15 is nice, its kinda underwhelming when you put it next to a Sci vessel that is as tough as any cruiser, has about the same damage output as any cruiser, AND has the full options of a science vessel.

Lower ability != 0 ability. Since science ships bet bonux aux, even if you set your value at 25, 50-60 effective isn't hard to do. Tyken's Rift will STILL put a major crimp in a cube's power drawand Energy Drain will beef up power levels further. Neglecting BO abilities, the Recon will be able to dance with escorts in a way that no cruiser ever will.

Too many people are in the all-or-nothing mindset. High level science abilities at lower power can still be very useful.
