Ok its a very simple question

why cant i go straight up or down ?

it would make it feel more 3 dimensional since it opens up a whole diffrent way to ambush people
performing a loop to get behind the guy following you would be more realistic too

So why have you made space battles so 2 dimensional

I like that.

Seems the developers think more like Khan than they do Kirk.

We need a new universal console that gives our ships Harrier Boosters, or maybe Helicopter Blades.

In space, the former would work, the latter would not.

I haven't been around these parts all that long but it has been long enough to know that the OP is opening an antique can of worms.

Kirk did it once, just once and it wasn't his idea, it was Spock's.

I suppose it might be a very old topic but i havnt been around that long so i would like an explanation as to why
im limited in space for no good reason (unless they can come up with one, i doubt it though. if i want to be upside down in space whats stopping me...)

Basically they want combat to be like 99% of the combat you saw in the TV and movies. Which makes sense and prevents our less spatial aware players from being completely lost and confused if all 3 axis was fully useable

If that is indeed how they think about it

That would be.... Very boring and disapointing

As for those of us spacially Un-aware....

You guys haven't figured out how to do a loop yet? It's a thing of beauty when my Gal-X drops in behind a Galor, de-cloaks and opens up with the spinal phaser and TCD torp. Guess advance combat maneuvering will be my little secret then...

The days of ENB, where a loop was an emote...

...but it is oddly more Star Trek to have the limited axis than something akin to EVE.

the real reason why no straight up or down... they dont want to have to add more shield facings, since if your currently above or below a target you will hit one of the other 4 facing instead of the top/bottom shield facing.
