i was wondering if i am the only one who is wondering about the damage resistance of escorts. I know escorts are meant to be glass canons but the difference is insane.

I have a sov with 50k ish Hull and 11K ish shields and 25% ish resistance to all damage types.

and i have a defiant with 41k Hull and 10k shields and 25% resistance to all damage types.

Now when my cruiser gets hit it takes like 5 to 6 hits till the shields are down, the defiant shields go down with 2 or 3 shots??? 1k shields cant make that big of a difference. Same with Hull cruiser can take 6 - 7 hits, the defiant goes down after 2 direct hits to the hull. 10K cant make that much of a difference.

This really needs some balancing, or am i missing something?

So it looks like i am the only one who think its odd that 11K shields on a cruiser are 11K but 11K shields on an escort are more like 5K.

I did test it today and in fact the shields of the Tactical Escort Retrofit (Defiant) are a max. of 5300 per face.
Even tho the stats show 10K shieldstrength per face. After a hit with 5400 damage, the shield was gone. So dear Cryptic, where is the other 5000 shieldstrength of my shields?

I think its power to the shield not the shield itself.

an escort SHOULDN'T have the shield or hull of a cruiser. it's the trade off for insane DPS.

Actually 11k shields should be about 9900 due to escorts having a shield modifier of 0.9.

Escorts have to keep moving, fast, being sure to exploit their high turn rate to ensure that they don't take too much damage to a single facing. Rotating Emergency Power to Shields with Tactical Team and a Tranfer Shield Strength will certainly help. But no, an Escort shouldn't be able to reach the shield capacity of a Cruiser.

Speed is life.

No i tried it with only one shield, MACO XII and 2 shield gen consoles. Which gives me an effective shield of 10K /face. But the shield can only take a max of 5400 dmg. Then it goes down. So it makes me wonder where the other 5K shieldstrength is.

As SteveHale already said, escorts shouldnt be able to reach the same shieldstrength like a cruiser but since in STO it is possible. I would like to be able to use them too.

Dear Devs, you really need to look in these kind of things and fix em. So either change the showed value of the shields to 5K something or let me use my 10K shields. Same for the Hull plz.

No, I think you've misunderstood something. When I said they shouldn't, I meant that they don't. The only time an Escort might have comparable capacity to a Cruiser is if the Escort is using Covariants and Shield consoles while the Cruiser is using Regens and no Shield consoles.

If you take one shield and try it out on each of the 3 different ship classes you'll get 3 different shield values. Escorts will have the lowest, then Cruisers will be higher and Science ships will be the highest. To get accurate values you have to check these in system space (not on the ground or in sector space).

If you are going down too fast you need to look at something like shield power levels (high power means higher resistance). High power levels won't raise the real capacity of your shields but they will increase resistance which is like having a higher cap. High power will increase the regeneration rate to help you recover faster after taking damage. Also, the faster you move the less important shields are since your opponent has the potential to miss more.

So if you are under fire, and this works for all classes, just pop your Emergency Power to Shields and a Tactical Team. Have a Transfer Shield Strength on stand by with high Aux power.
