Yes, of course you're right, I know it...that is my last hope keybind when I'm caught by full surprise...
My point being this, try hitting that keybind and continue to chain the abilities as soon as you enter a battlefield. Waiting until someone is decloaking to start your resistances is probably too late to matter.
Best counter as others have mentioned is Teamwork.... redirect team focus fire on the bad escort.

I would say aceton (ok I kid not really) but for some odd reason it has a 90 degree arc... honesty if this skill had no arc level 1 would be a good counter. (with arc it won't save your rear end... haha I made an aS*eton Joke... Haha 2 bad aceton puns)
Tractor beam + Evasive... not every cruiser can have a tractor without perhaps too much sacrifice... however if you can slot one, tractor evasive and turn out of the Dual heavy arc.
Rear Mounted Tric... hit and miss... if the escort is scattering that won't work... if the escort is really with in 1k you might end up killing yourself. (Dumb change Cryptic)
Target Weapons... if it is a pug a target weapons proc could leave Mr. escort with no guns for awhile... worse case it drops the dps for a few sec before he fixes. (really not many escorts will have one of there 2 slots filled with weapon bats... and very few will have an engi team.) If the escort has a team that gives him an engi team there is a good chance they have teamwork and the escort on your but is only part of the problem.
Some Sci Ship idea....
Tractor beam... should pretty much have one standard, use it too hold and move out of arc.
Tractor Repulsor... if you don't have a tractor this may be why... repulse target if they use omega they will take dmg anyway so thats bad news for them... Aux to ID is the only counter and not every escort will have chosen that.
Target Weapons / Aux / Engines... sci has all 3 and you may have some higher levels but even level 1s have a chance to proc offlines. Weapons is the quickest mostly likely to stick of the 3 on an escort. The other 2 can also help you to escape.
Of course its likely easier too get the nose of a sci ship on an escort then you have Viral Matrix... Gravity Well sort of... Tykens sort of. Ya most of the sci sucks, but at least if your sci sci you could just Noob beam them.
point as strait up as you can and start turning in circles, ewp, all power to engines and then evasive for like 10 times as an effective evasive, tt, evasive backward with full power to engines, wait till he murders all your shields and hit rsp, etc...
i tend to be just to hard to kill, let alone effect in any significant way, that generally they just give up and pick new targets.
The reverse and turn does the trick. If the escorts mirrors you, well you can see where that puts the escort. Only reasonable move for the escort is to turn so as to be moving in the direction of your reverse turn and use some speed buff to place himself as far away as possible. Then perhaps he can realign on your six if you ever stop turning.
Dreadnaughts will do this to bring their lance or cannons to bear on target and its always a good idea not to let them do that. (For the inevitable escort pilot reading this thread)
Warp plasma with the Doff is an excellent choice to use first if you have it available. I see many puggle cruisers just laying down the green poo on nothing in particular when I know for a fact they are really gonna wish they had some left in about ten seconds.
