# 1 Shield Console Changes

With the March 29th, 2012 patch release, shield consoles have had their effectiveness reduced and are now stackable. Even with close to 30 pages of mostly negative feedback on Tribble (in the Tribble feedback thread and the March 26th Tribble release notes thread), this change has gone through with no comment from the devs.

The issue is not so much the reduction which hits everyone equally, it's the effect it has on effectively reducing the number of console slots one has available. If it now takes the use of two to four Field Generators in Science console slots to ensure reasonable survivability, that take away effectiveness from all ships. Basically, what went from one console slot being used now goes to multiples and hurts all ships in one form or another.

It's a bad decision and also rather disheartening that the devs haven't responded or considered how this is such a significant negative change to the game.

Now is the time to add your voice and let the devs know how you feel.

Why bother to continue to tell them how unhappy we are over the field generator console change? They can hear us but that doesn't mean they are listening.

...and I suppose the obvious compromise of a non-stackable 26% bonus never came across anyone's mind either, right?

Design: A mistake compounded by an error aggravated by an overblown nerf.

Yeah, Cryptic can shove Tribble somewhere dark and warm for all I care. It's pretty obvious it's for stress testing code and bug hunting, not feedback. Otherwise it wouldn't be so consistantly brushed aside.

Change is good...

Missed the Tribble posts, but (as the maintenance is happening right now) here's my 2 cents:

IMHO, a +35% buff to shield cap on a single console was Over Powered to begin with...didn't make sense to me - but I enjoyed it while it lasted.

This change Does make sense...It's an attempt at re-balancing the game. "Tweaking it", a little. It Allows for the console to be stackable for those who DO want to invest in a more defensive mindset...Certain ships -Science and cruisers can/will obviously benefit the most, and rightfully so...Why not? Escorts get to pew pew all day long just fine!

Sorry, if this upsets some people....but, I don't see it as "Doooom " like alot of people say ....Come on people! ADAPT! Think outside the box - and not just about YOUR own game...Yes, fewer consoles will force people to rethink strategies, tactics etc. What worked BEFORE will not necessarily work in the future. With this comes the possibility for NEW builds, NEW tactics and strategies. Not necessariy bad, but different....

Anywayz, "Squeaky wheel gets the oil", I get it....but the "Cry Nerf!" Negativity is killing me lol

I'll have to see how much my survivability is compromised now...
I have one generator consoel atm and one other (I think it's a SIF console or something like that).
I wouldn't want to give up the second "just" for some extra shield power.

However it is ultimately a balance issue.
And if it turns out people are exploding left and right now , we can expect the next nerf soon to DPS...

In part it is a self made problem I think, because most players refuse to take on more specialized roles. They want to be good at everything.
If they are good at DPS they still want to tank well... hence the console.
Of course the actual tanks get to be unkillable now so the DPS ships need even more DPS... now that the console has been nerfed, DPS is out of sync.

Science ships and Cruisers who want to be anything other then shield tanks have been trown under the bus.
Escorts don't really lose that much, since most of their survivability isn't in their shields anyway.

Are there even any players who made it a point NOT using the console at all to be good at actual science stuff?

I had posted in another thread a similar response to what I am about to write.

The reason the nerf went through is because no one really spoke out about it. At the time of this reply, the feedback thread currently has approximately 120 posts in it, MOST of which are repeat posters replying every few posts to everything that is posted. BUT even if that were not the case, and if every post were unique individuals, that is 120 players out of a player base of literally thousands. That is hardly notable for an “outrage” or “majority” of player base speaking out.

Thus I shall say the same thing here as I did in the other threads related to this. You need to communicate with other players in the game. Get them to speak out. 120 players is nothing. But if thousands speak out, then the devs may take the feedback seriously as THEN it would be a “majority” of players speaking out. 120 players in a developer’s eye are just “a few people who do not like change”.

Otherwise . . . enjoy the console as they make it. Fortunately we survived without it months ago, and considering only 2 of my 6 ships even have the thing equipped . . . I do not think the game will end because of a few points being shaved off a shield facing. But . . . I did give my feedback in that thread and did advocate that if they make any changes to the console at all, to leave it at 35% and just make the thing unique.

I don't want to accuse you of anything, because maybe you mean something else and i want to give you the benefit of the doubt.

With that being said...

I don't know if it's just this forum that continually uses this word "tank" incorrectly or what.

I've played a lot of MMOs and I've never seen a playerbase so consistently misuse the word "tank".

Tanking is when you hold aggro, on purpose, for the entire team and have the mitigation to survive it.

What you're describing, and what Escorts do on Elite STFs regardless of anyone's hyperbole is try to survive the aggro they generate.

That's just surviving, it's not tanking.
