Hello All,

I've been running the 4 Piece Borg set on my Escort and working to boost the shield regen rate and I've been enjoying the results.

The only issue that I'm having is the hella long cool down on the tractor beam, 4 min seems a bit excessive for an ability that most Borg vessels can pop off every 30 seconds.

Any chance we can get that cool down cut down to a max of 120 seconds?

Its not just a tractor beam, its also a systems drain which is why (right or wrong) it has a longer cooldown than normal tractor beams.

Why not just put a tractor beam on a sci officer on your ship for the between times?

Science Officer Tractor Beams have a 30 second cooldown, use either that or both, alternating between the two, that's what I do.

The problem with all these console and set powers is that they are in addition to all the other powers you already have. A BO Tractor Beam variant power on a 4 minute cooldown would be subpar. But that's because it is competing with all the other BO powers in the same slot. But the set powers do not have this opportunity cost. They have some, but it's not like the set items on their own don't have any value. They are often better than very rare items of the same mark, and then still contribute to the set bonuses.

So, simply said, all these powers have to use very conversative to not end up utterly overpowered. Hence, a 4 minute cooldown for the Borg Tractor Beam (which is actually a little better than the usual Tractor Beam, as it comes with an energy drain).

It is certainly intended that these items are a bit better than "regular" very rares of their mark, but they can't be allowed to be too strong. Otherwise, a mission designer has a far wide gap in abilities between player sof the same rank to take into account.

Of course, STO's balance is so messed up in that regard that even now it's not easy, but it's not a good idea to add even more to the problem.

Yeah,

Your right about that.

I sometimes forget that the Tractor Beam is not part of my ship but just an add on that I get from the Borg space set.

I have to admit that I really like the tractor beam and it does return some nice energy to my systems when I use it; however, the 4 min cool down just kills it IMO.

I really like the regen on the Borg Shield but I think Iíll be going back to my M.A.C.O

The problem with that is, you have to sacrifice a module slot for the assimilated borg module in order to get the borg tractor beam as 4th set bonus. Other than the tractor beam, the module only slightly increases power level - not worth the sacrifice of a field generator/dmg mod/rcs/resist mod, etc. It's not a "free" bonus. Other sets have pieces that are worth equipping in themselves, independent of their set bonuses.

While I agree that the borg set bonus tractor beam isn't worthwhile, I strongly believe that the borg univeral assimilated module is the BEST component in the set, especially for escorts. It boosts critical hit chance, crit-severity, +5 weapon power, and hull repair. At this time, it is the only ship component that actually increases critical hit stats. If I could only equip 1 item in the Borg set, it would be the assimilated universal module.

Yeah. I know a lot of people who just slot the Assim Module even if they're not using the rest of the Borg Set. The Module is quite good.

What? The Assimilated Module is one of the, if not the best console in the game, it's universal and with the diminishing returns on EPS/RCS/Dmg/Neutronium/Amp/Gen consoles this Assimilated Conslole is VERY attractive.

And you don't have to grind STF's to get it
