# 1 Something i'm p1$$ed about
04-03-2012, 02:53 AM
I've done over 200 STF's on both difficulties, i'm running full MkXII weapons and MkXII Maco gear. I've passed every optional on every STF except cure ground elite.

Then why is it whenever i get a pug group STF run i get called a noob and a waste of time for flying an Odyssey???

This is really annoying. I bought all 3 Odyssey's the day they came out and now i don't use them because i know i'll get abuse in nearly every STF i enter.

Why do it???

because it's what you like to fly and just because someone else is incapable of flying her doesn't mean you can't, too, and other people'S opinions shouldn't diminish your fun?

It's because people get used to the fact that when they see somebody running around in an Odyssey, they automatically believe him/her to be a liability. Why? Because most people running around in Odyssey's are also the ones that have 1 of every beam on their boat, minimizing DPS and in general sucking.

Rainbow boats are what they are used to. But if you aren't running a Rainbow Boat, keep using the Odyssey and just put those naysayer's on ignore.

This is true. It's a stereotype but it's one that came from somewhere. It means you have to work harder to show that you are better than the typical oddy captain, and worse still, some folks are so set on these prejudices that you likely won't shake it anyway.

Another problem is with the design of the STFs. Simply put, more escorts with more damage means faster wins. Healing is fine but respawning is free and killing fast is the best form of crowd control.

I think most people are equally just sick and tired of joining a space stf to see 4 tactical captain's all in Odyssey cruisers on their team and they are the only escort.

The stf's aren't designed for a bunch of support cruisers so don't hate the players for recognizing that.

You should fly what you want to fly of course, but generally, a cruiser has to be setup in quite an unorthodox way to put out a good ammount of DPS, and can never rival an escort using the same means of putting out the DPS in question, nor a Science ship for crowd control and debuffing. In PVP, I like having cruisers as wingmen as long as they throw a heal my way when I need it, but in an STF the borg can one-shot people with ease, making it's healing and general toughness a moot point. Add in the fact that STFs are often a DPS race at many stages, and the cruiser starts looking a lot less useful. This wouldn't be the case if they tanked the Borg, but it rarely happens.

So far I've seen maybe half a dozen cruisers successfully draw agro in all the STFs I've done. Generally, the Borg will target whoever's hitting them hardest, and this is the escorts who can least afford to recieve damage themselves. Thus we can deduce that few cruiser pilots spec into "Threat Generation" which allows them to draw agro from NPCs even with other people damaging them more, which would make them a lot more useful since the escorts could do their job unimpeded. This is the only real role for a cruiser in an STF that I can see it performing better than an Escort or a Science ship. But at the same time, I can understand people not speccing into it though since it's useless in PVP and has little benefit in solo play.

So, this is why folks are often unhappy to have cruisers as wingmen. But, it's your account, your ship. If it's what you want to do, do it. It's not like you're griefing people by bringing a tier 2 ship, and it doesn't mean you're going to pop a generator or gate prematurely or something.

Another factor even out of STFs is that for every good Oddysey pilot, there seem to be several bad ones. If I'm cruising around Ker'rat in my Bird of Prey, I'm generally much more optimistic about engaging and destroying an Oddysey than any other type of cruiser.

LOL I was in a team with 4 Odys (me included:p) and one escort. It was the fastest run ever. It depends of captains and setups not the ship class cos STF is a joke.

Like the other posters have mentioned, bringing an cruiser, much less an oddy, to an stf wouldn't be my first choice, sure dps/faw is good, but really DPS is king in space stf's, escorts with maybe one sci for CC, Maybe. You can pure dps thru infected space elite in 6 mins. There are some effective oddy's out there, and perhaps yours is a good example, but there are many ppl who have made the oddy an object of ridicule and a sore sight to see on a team unfortunatly.

If that is the case, how many points should Cruiser Captains put into the skill? I was thinking at least 4 is good to provoke the Cubes enough to attack me.
