# 1 Most versatile premium ship
04-07-2012, 06:25 AM
With the current C-Points sale and the 'First Contact sale' this looks like a good opportunity to unlock a new C-Store ship, I'm just not sure which one to choose. So, of all the C-Store ships available to VA rank, is there any one that stands out as being useful for any captain, be they Science, Engineering, or Tactical officers?

FYI: I have 10 fed toons (3 Tac, 3 Engi, 4 Sci, 2 of each are at VA rank so far), and if they're all going to have access to the same ship I want it to be one I'd find useful for all of them.

Thanks for reading.

The easy answer is to get the 3-pack Oddy bundle, but its still 3 cruisers.

The MVAM could be good, its obviously an escort first and foremost, but it has more science slots.

The Defiant is all tactical. You can use it on a sci/eng captain, but IMO, you don't get the best synergy. I also don't recommend the Gal-X, since your sci captains won't really see a point, and its a kind of limiting ship.

If I had to make this choice, I would get an MVAM and/or the Oddy pack, if only 1 Oddy, then the science or engineering one.

Since the Flagships on both sides are excluded from the sale, probably better to buy something on sale.

Although I suppose the 15% boost to points is like a sale, but you can double dip if you don't go a Flagship.

As for the most Versatile ship on Fed side... MVAE

This thread contains all the information about it.

Defiant while a great ship and a DPS hammer doesn't have that much versatility, it can cloak, it can DPS, it can DPS.

Sci ships are versatile but hard to fly right.

I honestly donít feel comfortable claiming any one ship fits all three classes. That said some are more versatile than others. The Advanced Research Vessel Retrofit (Nebulae) can accommodate a science or engineering character well. The Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit (Excelsior) can accommodate an engineer or a tactical captain well.

Thanks to its inherent characteristics, the Odyssey class strongly favors an engineering captain but grants them a significant degree of versatility in their bridge officer power selection to fill more roles through its universal BOFF stations.

Have fun spending that dough.

I've spent several weeks looking for this for similar reasons, Nico, and I don't think it exists (except maybe for the Bird Of Prey, d'oh!). Everything seems to have its one primary role, and then maybe a buffed-up secondary, but nothing does all 3 well. MAYBE the Oddy since it can be Engineering + EitherOther, but you get that dreadful turn rate, and it'll still be Engineering First because of the Commander slot.

You've hit upon the secret, OP. There isn't one. Unlocking the ship for all toons is just an empty selling point. Each ship is designed with a class in mind and other than very specific builds or rare circumstances, they're not that useful to other classes.

The Nebula is by far the most versitle on the Fed side.

Sci in Sci, clearly works,
Tac in Sci buffs dmg from all science powers by a LARGE margin, 5000 tick GW anyone, what about 100k PSWs
Eng in Sci, means you fly it like a cruiser with some offense and some decent CC,

Nebula IS the only ship that answers the OPs question.

Probably the MVAM Escort, or the Nebula +1, or the Dreadnought. Science pilots can use the high maneuverability of the MVAM to get powers in arc, but with only a LT sci, you can't get many powers. Engineers can use their skills to buff the survivability while still dealing a huge amount of DPS, and tactical captains are obviously tactical captains.

I don't have a detailed analasys on the Nebula+1, but my fleetmates swear by it.

The Dreadnought.... really isn't useful for science, but tacs can put out a lot of damage and engies can tank like a champ with it.

I can't really speak for Engineering captains, as I don't have one at the appropriate rank - but for both Science and Tactical, the MVAM Prometheus is fantastic.
Granted, I use the Defiant on my tactical officer, but if I had to choose only one ship for all my VA Feddies, it would be the MVAM Prometheus.
