It feels like a starship, not a fighter *glares at escorts*. It's inertia is the one thing I don't like about it. Though really what originally attracted me to the Odyssey was the fact it's GINORMOUS!! Not fat like the galaxy ships.
ROFL on the fat ship comment! And I agree, I like the "this is a real starship" feel to cruisers too! And well, i'm glad you tried it out on Tribble then

I have had some good fun with an all-turret Oddy Star Cruiser (freebie variant) in Arena on one of my alts today. The sustained DPS is acceptable, and the burst will be painful to targets. However, using a LtCom Tact will make her relatively squishy.

Yeah, I hope I get to keep the 3 Odyssey's on tribble. So I can pretend I have them. Hmm, I should go play around with my tac odyssey build there.......

I just noticed that tac odyssey has the word taco in it .

That must look hilarious with scatter volley. Actually, one of each damage type and then scatter volley. Rainbow of Pain!

The prob is: I'm a tactical officer that likes the odyssey because of its design and hull%
And I like the escorts because the DPS and full use of the tactical bridge officers I have

Thats why I made this thread, I wanna be sure that the Odyssey is good for a tactical officer, and to not waste money.
Apologies for being a bit late to the conversation, but I'd say that an Odyssey is generally potentially far more survivable than an Escort, with less potential Damage output.

An Odyssey does, however, have the best potential Damage output of all Cruisers, including the Excelsior, because of the ability to slot up to 3 Tactical officers (though usually I can't imagine you using the Ensign slot very often and it does fine with just the LTCom and LT). So it's pretty much as close to Escort damage output that you're going to get, with still having a huge Hull. The tradeoff is that it maneuvers like a barge unless you drop the saucer.

If you're building it as a combined Tank/DPS boat a good starting point would be to take two copies of Tac Team I (using the Universal LtCom slot for a Tac BOFF) and EPTS I (using the Universal Ensign slot for an Engineer), plus Hazard Emitters and Transfer Shield Strength in the Sci LT slot. The three higher level Engineer and Tac Powers are more down to personal choice than necessity, but I'd probably take at least a copy of Aux2SIF II or III (Engineering Team, Extend Shields, DEM, EWP and RSP are all options) plus Torpedo Spread II or III and Fire at Will II or III (and possibly Attack Pattern Beta/Omega).

I've also found it very handy to have an alternative Sci LtCom BOFF to slot in for STFs with Gravity Well I and Tractor Beam Repulsors I. YMMV.

You might want to glance over these threads - Odyssey Tactical Build Help (more about the Tac Odyssey than a Tac in an Odyssey, but lots of similar points/arguments including arguments for the above setup) and Which Odyssey? (arguments for/against the three C-Store versions).

Now the final question I have to make (not wanting to abuse anyone time).

What all of you RECCOMEND in your opinion, the operations odyssey(chevron separation) or the tactical odyssey( aquarius ship).

In terms of use (not consoles/ etc)

thx for your time

Both Pets have a liftime until next warpcore explosion, and then you have a 5 min cooldown, you have no controll over the pets , they are stupid like a toastbread. woul'd sugest you to get the Sci Ody, the hull rapair worker have atleast 45 sec cooldown. And with Sensor Analyses you do even more dps then a Tak Ody.

He's right, as pets they're kind of dumb, part of the learning curve on the Odyssey with either is figuring out how to stop them from getting blown to bits by residual explosions -_- They do help A LITTLE in battle, but I wouldn't say they make a huge difference. In this regard though, the Aquarius is far better armed than the Saucer Section.

I tried switching to the Science Odyssey as suggested, but the different power balancing just didn't work for me, and the 60 seconds it took to make Sensor Analysis worth it made me feel like an old man, lol, so I ended up back on the Tactical Odyssey. But that's me.

If you can, experiment with the three until you're satisfied. If you can't, read up and go with your gut feeling, hehe. But when it comes to attack pets I'm in agreement, they're not particularly great. The three console buffs combined are what's more worthwhile in those regards, but again, this is my opinion based on my personal play preferences.

But regarding that the ''pets'' are dumb.. Still if I get the operations ody I still get a dumb pet but I also get some bonuses for the rest of the ship right?
