# 1 being CHEATED in combat

Enemy ships CONSTANTLY debuf me with Reverse Power Drain.
It forces the ship to turn away 180*
debuf last 25 seconds and then it is applied again, and again and again.
Neither polarize hull nor engineering team removes the debuf (reverse power drain)
Having MAX power insulators has NO resistance effect.

The rip off skill is NOT even listed as bridge officer trainable.
The web sites are void detailing the enemy skill nor any information what removes the debuf.

For a tac ship with a limited 45* firing arc, the game exploits combat by repeatedly applying the debuf and then again and again; so the enemy has free shoot at one's rear shields and once that is down easy kill from hull attack.

enemy frigats, cruisers and batleships are using this exploit.

Trying to search these forums about reverse power drain only brings up a single thread requesting it be removed that has largely been ignored.

You do not list the skill nor do you explain how to overcome it. STO is exploiting combat mechanics.

Which ability is this? The only drain abilities I recall are Target Shields (Breen cruisers), Energy Syphon (also Breen cruisers) and Tyken's Rift (Breen capital ships, Fed' Dreadnought etc). All of these have counters; Target Subsystems is Engineering Team, Energy Syphon by Science Team and Tyken's by just moving away from the rift but none match the description you've given.
Which NPCs use it, I've been in game most of today and not come across anything. Is there an area that it's easiest to come across (Romulan space, Borg space etc)?

Are you backing up? Because that is what the 'ignored thread' you mentioned is talking about. Other ships don't do it to you, backing up does it to you, the fix is.. stop backing up.:p

the reverse power drain is pure stupidity. if power is drained by moving in reverse, then it should occur stationary. devs wanted escorts (and other narrow arc forward firing ships) to stop hitting reverse to keep their weapons on target. they want you to do strafing runs or suffer. you are not allowed tactics outside of 'canon' seems to be their goal.

yet oddly enough you can't fly as if you were truly in space, there are no thrusters which were used in films and shows. and zero gravity space actually has gravity in sto since there is always a well defined up and down. funny how the devs pick and choose what's included and what's not allowed.

so yeah, it's a cheat. sometimes i wonder if they're trying to get this game shut down. so they can focus on champions.

I lol'd for like 20 minutes. Even if this isn't a trolling thread, it's the best laugh I've had all week.

Stop backing up your ship. Or tap forwards to go stationary and it'll clear the drain, then proceed to back up again.

There is no gravity because you are not being pulled but there is a plane you are snapped onto which is just plain stupid. I also agree that the power drain thing is unneeded, unwanted, and makes no sense.

To be honest there isnt really much that surprises me anymore. Sometimes i really think some of the Devs at cryptic are like this guy.

Once upon a time, you could travel in reverse at will. However, that gave a significant tactical advantage for ships with high turn rates (e.g. escorts, raptors, BoPs, even science ships). Made it so much easier to keep those narrow-cone, high-damage weapons on target. I remember someone quipping once that STO stood for "Space Turrets Online," because small ships would so often just sit and spin. I did it myself in PvE - though I quickly learned not to in PvP.

That's why Cryptic put it in. The alternatives were to nerf the heck out of narrow-cone weapons or small-ship turn radii.

If you really want to sit and spin, you still can - just go stationary for a split second once in a while, and you can avoid the debuff completely.

No wonder they don't have the resources to fix all the things that are actually broken. They have to figure out why enemy ships are making you back up to the point that you have no power levels.

I hope they get to the bottom of this soon!
