The Ultra Rare Doffs are the ones that can only be obtained during Special Events, such as the six (3 Fed/3 KDF) that are available from your first run through of the '2800' FE...

And the Few that were given out for taking part in the Testing of F2P on Tribble.

They are considered Ultra Rare because thay can not be obtained through normal DOffing means.

Any DOff that you can get through the regular playing of the DOff System, but is Very Hard to get, is still considered just Rare.

Very Rare is not the same as Ultra Rare.

The same holds true for Trading Cards and Collectable Game Figures.

So can you tell if you have an ultra rare by the "Quotes" under the doff below their traits description.

I was the one that brought up this issue to Heretic in the first place...

it is referring to the "ultra rares" (Naajin, Kel The Retributor, etc etc)

they are purple, yes. But they are "legendary" for lack of a better term.

Cool, but how do you know? if you have a "Legendary" Boff or not. I have some Purples that have "Quotes" at the bottom of them would these be considered legendary or is there something that you can tell them apart.

The terminology can get a bit problematic at times, and its use (even by myself) is not always as precise as it should be:

Terminology
Handcrafted - Not generated by the algorithmic system. Can have a quote. Can have non-standard trait and power allocations. E.g., the Guinan clone, Elizabeth Mohr.

Unique - Can only ever have one of these at a time. Handcrafted. E.g., Deep Space 9 duty officers.

Replicatable - Can be replicated in your ship's replicator upon achieving certain commendation category tiers. Handcrafted. E.g., Emergency Medical Hologram.

Photonic - Holograms. Have Resilient, Photonic and Eidetic traits. May or may not be Replicatable or Unique. Handcrafted.

Frontier - Handcrafted duty officers gained as end-chain starcluster Colonial rewards. E.g., Kevan Coyotl. Handcrafted.

Commendation - Handcrafted duty officers given as rewards for leveling up or for attaining Commendation tiers.

Prisoners - Go in the Brig inventory bag. Only come in White quality.

Colonists - Go in the Passengers inventory bag. Only come in White quality.

Ultra-Rare - Handcrafted, non-unique Purple quality (or sometimes, more rarely, other qualities) with non-standard active roster powers. Their power levels are the same as a normal Purple, but they are much rarer due to their non-standard active roster powers and handcrafted nature.

Ultra-rares include (among many others):
  • Dahar Master Korloth
  • Begra (and other Xindi)
  • Gorj the Widowmaker
  • Kel the Retributor
  • Patriarch Chu'raft
  • Silin (the Suliban)
  • ...plus a bunch of new ones in the Gamma Quadrant pack

Basically, if it has a quote, an unusual active roster power, and can come out of a C-Store or cadre pack, then it's probably an ultra-rare.
