Hi and sorry, but this isn't another I love you oooga boooga goooga Cryptic, so cute threads. I just want to take a collective moment to thank all of the community skeptics who have been providing constructive feedback on STO up until this point. Keep it up and remain skeptical and vigilant!
But, I also want to remind everyone that skepticism does have it's limits. To paraphrase what Heretic said on SToked, we as the playerbase need to remain skeptical but keep it helpful helpful and constructive. So, yeah, feel free to share any healthy skepticism you have about STO in general, whether that be the direction it's headed, what PVP should look like, or what any sort of discussion about STF's.
Here's some of my own healthy skepticism and constructive ideas:
Again, to paraphrase Heretic, I always try to look for ways to make the doff system connect with the rest of STO. In the same spirit, I believe Cryptic needs to look for ways to better connect and relate each of the in-game components with each other.
Since the F2P transition in December to when Dan took over, the game has been steadily improving. For that, I am thankful. However there are areas that still need improvement in the game. For one, Cryptic needs to come up with a way to make science ships viable again in PVP and STF's. As it stands, science ships get cut to pieces and do not have the kind of tanking/high dps value that cruisers and escorts have. One way would be to make science ships able to repair structural that minor, medium, and critical components currently repair. That is, science ships would be equipped with special repair drones that could repair seriously damaged areas of the ship.
The same could be said of our sick bay-pretty much useless. Please change the game to allow our doctors and nurses to be able to heal injuries sustained during higher difficulty ground runs. You could even introduce new ground abilities that allow science players to beam in mini triage units that would temporarily allow them to heal injured players.
Need for better social maps:
Cryptic has the resources, but it doesn't seem to want to use them. For example, change the way star fleet academy and cadet training is done (dilithium collection via scanning particles). My biggest problem with dilithium ore grinding in it's various shapes and forms is that it's so boring. Why not create incentives that would encourage people to team up together? As an example, when you do particle scanning as part of the academy cadet training, give people the chance to scan particles in teams. Make the particles give a chance to beam in something other than just klingons. Why not beam in attack targs, romulans, or jem'hadar, too? Another example of encouraging team up would be to offer a little extra dilithium for turning in particle fragments as a team.
Academy could be exploited for other social purposes, as well. Two things come to mind: water sports and street racing. San Francisco Bay is right there, and I guarantee you some Starfleet officers race seadoo's in their spare time. Introduce boat races that other players can watch from the coastline. Also, introduce a betting system that allows the spectators to bet on who they think might win.
For street racing, you could use the golden gate bridge as a race track. Let us race with those hovercraft we see in the 2009 Star-trek movie. I bet you tons of people would be doing this as a social activity if it was available.
Other whacky social ideas:
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to notice people love to jump and climb on things at ESD and Q'nos (more so at ESD I would say). Why not give us some low grav play ground social maps where we could race each other through obstacle courses? Counter-strike has some mods that are like this like the zombie escape mod. In zombie escape mod, players must try to get through an obstacle course while avoiding the zombie that is randomly chosen from the player list. In the same way, STO could make an Undine escape map. A random player out of the players (maybe 20 per map) would be turned into an undine 10 seconds into the map. The rest of the players would then try to reach the end of the of the level but could be infected and turned into an Undine by the first one. I know the tech is there because I've seen Q turn us into animals and other races, so it shouldn't be impossible.
Another cool idea would be to have shuttle races in space that gave EC and dilthium rewards. Players would have to go through a certain number of hoops (check points) in order to stay in the race. Cryptic could even introduce power ups (mario kart style) that let us slow down other competitors (tractor beam), speed up, disable competitor engines temporarliy, etc.
Some Funky ideas for the reorganization of ESD layout:
Folks, it's the 25th century so why are we running around ESD when we should be moving around on horizontal escalators or mini hovercraft? Admirals should get hovercraft that they can use to move around ESD faster. Alternatively, Cryptic could install some horizontal escalators throughout all of ESD that would significantly improve mobility. Plus, riding them would be a fun distraction.
ESD should have various levels, too. Maybe the absolute center of ESD should be this giant low grav circular tube, about 100-200m long, where players could do some low grav acrobatics with thruster boots.
Lastly, change the layout of the entire ESD to be more open and circular. I've noticed that the bar area and requisitions are too enclosed. Change their layout so that they are more open. For example, eliminate the glass wall that separates the inside of the bar from the main promenade. For requisitions, push the sellers' counters against the walls while making the wall more spherical. This will make the room feel larger and less clunky. Also, make the room come alive by having a conveyor belt that actually moves requisition supplies to and from the room.

Can you list the steady improvements you mention since Dec and or since F2P and what so far has Dan actually done?
The exchange has been improved in that you can now search for particular doffs by type
The new FE episodes were released
A new Kling episode was released
The Defera Invasion event was introduced which will be expanded. Other similar events will follow.
Doff missions can now be done from inside the ship which actually does make me want to go inside my ship. At first, I didn't like this, but now I do.
Now it's your turn solomace: come up with as many whacky ideas or suggestions as the things I've suggested above for any aspect of the game that haven't been previously thought of before.
According to Dan, that was in production before he left.
Even so, he managed their release which is no easy feat. Bugs have to be squashed, code has to be rewritten, etc. Dan and the STO cryptic team have done a pretty decent job of listening to community feedback about the FE bugs.
Now chum, can we please get back to discussing some new ideas. How about giving me feedback on some of the propositions I list above?
