With the widespread use of Tac Team and accompanying clearing of FOMM, I'm wondering if Sci would start be the more effective killer.

I'm assuming that the enemy is running Tac Team not Sci Team.

This leaves Tac Fleet, GDF and APA v. all the enemy's defensive buffs. But, you only get all 3 of those once every 5 min, so regularly you're down to APA every 90 sec.

After a sub-nuc this leaves Sensor Scan v. no buffs. This can come up once every 2 min.

Plus there's the plain effectiveness of Tac Team which means the Tac has to get through essentially 4 buffed shield facings but Sci needs to get through one unbuffed facing.

Guess I need to get in game and do some maths or at least roll a true Sciscort and see what's what. Any Sciscort pilots have insight?

After some disappointment with my Science Ship, I bought myself an Advanced Escort and I'm currently doing Elite STF's in it. When it comes to Raw DPS, the Tactical Escort pilot can beat me. But I can put out respectable damage and debuffs.

I also can do an AOE Damage resistance buff with Scattering Field, something only Science Captains can do.

So when it comes to Escorts, Tactical Captains can do it better, but Science guys come in a close second.

Put a Sci in a defiant and find out. You will not be disapointed I think.

if i was a sci escort, i would fire at a target unbuffed, get the opponent to freak and hit all his defense buffs, drop a subnuke, and obliterate him after fully buffing. its been done to me, but i don't go overboard when attacked and usually can survive those situations. i never trust an escort anymore, never know when they might subnuke you. especially now going forward, with sci ships being unusable.

I've tried both a Tac Escort & an Adv Escort. I've found that having additional Sci consoles & Boff slots on the Adv Escort make it perferrable to the Tac Escort for a Sci Captain IMO. I usually use an Intrepid-R for PVP & a Adv Escort for STFs.

that is the reason

my sci is in a MVAE, it never beats my tac in the defiant retrofit, but it outguns every sci ship or cruiser. and the ltcmdr sci slot gives me the oportunity for a gravity well or some other high tier ability.

I love my engscort. Great in drawn out fights, which makes up for the lack of a burst. Sciescorts don't have the same burst potential as tacscorts, but the well-timed use of subnuke & sensor scan (as mentioned above by dontdrunk) can make up for it, and can therefore kill an opponent just as quickly as a tac.

Engscorts are fun for pugging. At least I have been having fun with mine. The engie capt abilities let you focus
less on heals and more on ways to debuff, hold and maintain steady dps on your opponent. Does that mean
it's a tactscort? Far from it, but if you run a pugger build that's evasive with good overall dps it is a lot of fun.

Don't expect to be instantly killing foes like you would with a tactical. Tacticals reign superior for instant kills
and burst dps. Engineers can run most ship types and maintain a overall good standing. It all comes down
to play style and what abilities are working as intended it seems.
