Can I assume that the federation and Klingon Skillsets are generally equal?

I want to play a Klingon Scientist in command of a scientifically outfitted Vo' Quv, if you can say "YES", I'll love you forever.

1. When you say that after putting a certain amount of skill points into our skills we will be offered a promotion does that mean we can turn it down? Can I stay a Captain and never advance to Admiral? If I can what are the disadvantages to doing so? I assume Admirals have a few skills at the point of the pyramid to use your example that a Captain can't get.

2. Does the characters rank corespond to the tier of ship that player can use? LT=Tier ,1 LTCMDR= Tier 2, so on and so forth.

3. Can you give us a basic overview of the skills for each career path?

4. Will my bridge officers skills come from the same pool as my own, so by training them I could theoretically get every skill to use?

5. I know we can promote our bridge officers in rank but is there a limit beyond that they can't be the same rank as you or above? If I become an Admiral can I have all my BO's be Captains? Is there advantages or disadvantages to doing so?

6. Can you give an example of what exactly is in one of these kits that we take on away missions?

7. Will there be a max number or skill points that a player can get to increase their skills or will we be able to keep increasing our skills until we've maxed out every one?

8, What is the max number of bridge officers and ships that players can have and is that tied into our rank or based off skill points regardless of actual rank?

9. How will our bridge officers earn experience alongside us? Can a bridge officer who is not on the away team on a planet or not slotted into one of the ships seats still get experience points or will points only go to those that are partcipating in the particular parts of the mission.

Will the only way you will be able to progress is by PVP?
I feel that if a higher rank plays a lower rank in PVP
then the lower rank moves up faster.
the bigger the challenge the faster you can move up)
or it could take you down just as fast LOL.

Some have been asked some havent, jus wanna get em all out there

1. whats the max number of skills we can have at max lvl, or given enough time can we learn everything

2. Are we limited to one ship tree, Cruiser, escort, science or will we be able to earn them all?

3. Will our BO's be limited to one tree or will we have the option to cross train them?

4. How are skill points earned, per kill, per quest, per use of skill?

Okay, enough of the background, I guess my two questions are:

1) If we change our focus (say from Tactical to Engineering) will we start at the Lieutenant skill level for the new 'branch'?

2) I like the usage of skill points and allocating them to where I want over the time based Eve model. I'm not looking to get a 'max' character quickly, but I'm hoping it's not set up as a 'grind fest' for the skill points either. I guess Is it more of a 'play more, get skill points quicker' setup?

Sorry if these questions are covered in your news article (I had a question I was going to ask, then re-read the article and you had answered it lol); if they are, I will /facepalm myself happily. Thanks for the time! (Also, any chance we could see some of these skill lists? :begbegbeg
That was always the reason I never got deep into playing EVE, because the developers basically said your not allowed to progress faster then we say so. Spending more time ingame won't change that, all you can do is wait... now I would not mind this being an optional way of doing things but I don't like being penalized for having more play time then some other guy, it just makes zero sense.

Amongst the questions raised here, those I tend to be the more interested in are:
  • The capacity to turn down promotions, and possible repercussions of that (including if it is possible to keep advancing lesser skills). Are there forms of latteral advancements for the character beyond skills and ranking?
  • The possibility of qualifying to learn skills from a path different from the first chosen. The example of a player that is pining to command a cruiser but then switch for the Luna-class science vessel does strike a cord in me.
  • Some confirmation of how the ranks tie in with ship access would also be appreciated. I don't want to have to be an admiral to go around in a Sovereign or a Luna... Picard and Riker sure didn't have to.

Thank you for the insights.

Oh, I totally agree. At first, (and still sometimes) I thought it was cool I was learning skills and progressing while at work, not playing, etc. Buuuuut, I started playing 2 years ago, and now both my characters are in long skill trains. I know that STO won't be that way, but I'm just wondering if there's any similarities between it and Eve, besides just having a skill system. (I'd much rather advance faster for playing/'grinding'; I'm just wondering what kind of progression model we'll have, really.) I like your idea about an optional way, but that might be abused unless it was significantly nerfed compared to playing and 'leveling'. It's still a good idea, though.

Will Bridge Officers progress independently? So that I will end up with a few well trained BOs and the rest will still need to be "skilled up"?

Cool, I guess that was already stated.

I have more:

I am told ground combat "upgrades" will occur with the acquisition of "kits". Will my BOs need to have attained a given rank to use bigger better kits?

Will you have a difficulty system in STO like CoH has? Can you elaborate on how you might get the level of difficulty you prefer?
