Greetings.

I posted this same question a few weeks ago in the general STO subforum but I got no answers there. Let's try here, hoping more Fed aldmirals take a look around this forum...

Well, now with the question: I'm thinking about purchasing the Tier 5 Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit (the higher tier Excelsior retrofit) in the C-Store.

It is supposed to have an integrated Advanced Transwarp Drive (no console like before F2P or like the current T3 Excelsior, but with the ability embedded into the hull itself).
This Advanced Transwarp Drive does not only allow fast travel between six sectors, but also, as reading the description in the C-Store:
- "The Advanced Transwarp Drive also offers a constant passive bonus to Starship Energy Weapon Performance, Starship Shield Performance, Starship Engine Performance and Starship Auxiliary Performance which scales with level. "
For what I've seen on the latest SpiderMitch ship chart, this embedded ability is supposed to grant (at max level) about +7.6 extra power to all subsystems.

But after reading the forums looking for setups and info on the Excelsior, I stepped by some threads saying that this power bonuses are *NOT* being added at all, in what seems to be a bug (or a nerf?).
(For example, here -> http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho...d.php?t=251310, and more precisely the problem is detailed in the first post of the third page -> http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho...=251310&page=3)

Before spending real money into the ship, I would like to know if that bug report is true and the T5 Excel indeed lacks the extra power bonus (or it may be fixed now, as the threads mentioning this are a few months old).

Thanks in advance for the answers. Regards

I can't answer your question, but I am curious as to how the abilities scale up with you, when you can only get this ship when you have already maxed out?

Hi.

As far as I know, the T5 Excelsior (Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit) is not max level, but can be bought as soon as Rear Admiral - Lower Half (level 41), so the ability scales as you grow from RA-LH (41) to Vice Aldmiral (51), up to the maximum of +7.6 extra power, (the same way, for example, as the Standard Issue-S equipment and weapons grow for shuttlecrafts as you level up).

Cannot confirm this, though, as I'm already VA and still planning the purchase.

Ah, that makes sense. I must have got my Admiral levels mixed up. I thought it was a tier 5, not 4. That makes sense with the scaling then. Although... you say it's a T5. So stuff like the Sentinel is also T5, and the Cstore ships you get unlocked when you reach level 50 are also T5? Or T6? I think I should stop trying to follow too many things. I confuse myself.

Every ship from Rear Admiral - Lower Half and up is considered Tier 5 (that is level 41 and up). Sovereign class, for example (Assault Cruisers).

As far as I know, even Vice Almiral ships (top notch ones, like Odyssey, the Dreadgnough, Multivector, the new Caitian, ... ) are considered also Tier 5, as they are usually just very small improvements over the RA ships.

Back on topic... No Excelsior owner can tell me about the Power Bonus? Is this ship such an unpopular one?

Quite the opposite, the Excel refit is a very popular choice for alot of Tac Captains and i loved the transwarp ability to shoot whereever i needed to leap to DS9, but since getting the Galor, i must admit that i definately have shelved my Excel and honestly never really looked at the innate power bonus.

The Excelsior is indeed a fine ship, and if i had not gone over to the KDF to play with the orion ships i would still be using it. sad part is I never noticed any of these boosted power levels they are talking about either.

I believe it does have this passive ability. I'll look when I log-in tonight.

p.s. even if not, it is a kickass ship!

Hi.

Any news on this? Could you test the Excelsior ingame?
