Permanent content will yield better results. Timed events only available at a certain hour restrict the amount of players who will experience it; as long as you're aware.

Finally got in at about :58 into the hour. Got 1 data-thingy. Now I see I need 3 to 10 of them to DO anything!
So here's how it goes...
  1. Have to be on when it's available.
  2. Have to hope the queue is small enough that you get in at a reasonable time. While YOU JUST SIT THERE IN A FREAKING SHUTTLE NOT ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ELSE.
  3. Have to hope your team is not stupid and can complete mission.
  4. Have to hope you get a drop of the data (?)
  5. Have to hope that your Doff can SUCCESSFULLY complete the mission and get you something after you FINALLY get enough datachip things! Imagine the Doff failing and WASTING the days (weeks?) of effort you just put into it!
So essentially you will be doing this freaking thing forever and probably for nothing.

And I thought the mining event was a waste of time.
Cryptic why do you have to make these things such an uber-grind?
Hell, it's worse than a grind, cause you have to get lucky to EVEN do the mission!
Why does Cryptic continue to do stuff that makes their customers mad?
After so many frustrating events, I'm beginning to think they do it on purpose!

Either up the reward amount to offset the rarity of being able to do the mission
OR
Make the event time like the "Path to 2409" where you get extra rewards during that time, but mission is available at all times!

Amen to that.
Cryptic should be asking "How can we make your experience more enjoyable?"
Not TELLING us; "You play NOW or go #$%#*% yourself."

STO is able to drag me away from WoW during my free time. That is quite a feat. But Cryptic is making it real hard to enjoy coming here. Lock boxes being pushed every 6 seconds, new events you can never do because its not the right hour of the day, etc.

Cryptic, the MMO genre is a hard one to compete in, stop forcing people away with garbage. I've spent more time complaining about this event than I GOT TO PLAY IT TODAY!!!

Next month, Diablo 3 comes out. So WoW, Diablo and STO. My free time is finite. FIGHT FOR IT LIKE YOU WANT ME TO PLAY HERE!

Why you would make any content limited in a content starved game is beyond me.

Remove the timers/times from everything at let the players choose what they want to do.

People blame noobs for failing elite stf's all the time. The noobs are not at fault (they can only learn through experience), the mechanics are (forcing a person to wait for a fail beyond their control). Congrats cryptic, you just extended the problem to new content, and made it far worse at the same time.

What I find funniest about this is they also drop in PVP where loot doesn't drop.

Questions first.

On the doff mission:
Will it be a rare - very rare that randomly shows up or a shipboard one that is always open?
Will it require some hard to find trait?
Will it be failable so you have to start all over and waste more time-grind?

These new cores, are they a random drop or something you will get every time on every player?

I also assume that our old shield earned in the standard reword for completing a mission are not going to count towards being a set. I see XII.

Now.

I add my name to those against these time limits. Both in when you can play it and what sounds like hidden time limits. Limits within limits. A game should fit a players schedule, not the other way around. If this were like the STA or crafting time then no problem. It is not.
I also rather wish you had kept to the already used standard for getting the shield for the other parts. Let me decide if I wanted to risk another try at teaming.

Rather disappointing.

Wow. Seriously? Its bad enough the que thing and timing this new content--but the datacores are materials for a Doff to craft?

And they can fail?

No way. Just no. This is lame. I am at a loss for words, I just am not sure what to think about the direction of my STO love.

I can sort of understand the timeslotting of this as an event but for a launch weekend am I right in saying that there's only 5 hours worth over the entire weekend? Less if you take into account that one of the slots is about 3-4 am for the eu. Assuming of course the servers actually up.

When I first read this I thought it's be joinable by the pve queues and would be timed to get objectives done for greater reward. However with the event only nonsense I cant see me being online at a time thats suitable to get this done. Or by the time I am it'll be filled with drama queens who dont like those that are new to a thing joining them.

Timeslot events are becoming like doff missions, we get more and more but nothing meaningful/useful that relates to when we can play.

Kind of sad I decided to take the weekend off to "celebrate" yet more junkbox rubbish and missed out on the 13th mission. But at least next 13th I know I can log in anytime of day to check it out.

And presumably the doff mission for the crafting will be a rare one that needs cstore doffs to get done?

Has anyone seen the event? I haven't seen it. Unless it is the first episode in the Remans series. If not, there's no sub-window to accept this mission.

Besides all the questions asked in the first page, what I want to know is whether this affects the Featured Episode of the same name? Meaning it is not going to be removed or changed for this thing right?

I would assume not, but I just want to make sure since I several characters I am trying to get to 50 before doing the various FE episodes.
