# 1 Tactical Kit Guide?
04-22-2012, 11:51 AM
Does anyone have a guide for tactical kits? I want to know some good tactics and combos for each, and what kind of things they would be used good for.

My favorite is Fire Team:

Opener 1: Suppressive Fire, Pulsewave Wide Burst, Plasma Grenade
Opener 2: Ambush, Battle Strategies, Target Optics, Pulsewave Wide Burst
(repeat with Opener 1)

Lol close combat specialist the movement accelerator helps when your trying to go around ds9 but go to personal equipment and click on subcategory kits on the sto wiki and choose your own

There were a few floating about before the forum changes.

A few touched on "Kit Swapping" and were locked/removed, but there should have been a few like this one that survived. And I found one that mentions the joys of Tactical Initiative + Ambush.

Basically, you'll want a kit with ambush on it for 95% of occasions.

In terms of Tactical Kits, never use the following:

Grenade Satchel: All of the grenades share cooldowns, and don't do a whole lot of damage on their own.
Close Combat Specialist: Completely useless in a PvP situation, at least. In PvE, it may be marginally useful, but comparing it to the kits I list below, you won't be doing the best.

The following kits aren't junk:

Security Protocol: Security Protocol is mainly a support kit.
  1. Use Overwatch when your team is getting hammered or about to rush into a heavily fortified place. Your enemies will be exposed like crazy and take more damage the more they shoot at you.
  2. Use Suppressing Fire to lock down targets who were dumb enough to leave line of sight of their healers.
  3. Draw Fire is... kinda useless in PvE but can be useful if combined with a pocket medic in PvP.
  4. The Stun Grenade is immensely useful, as I believe it's the only AoE stun in the game that doesn't break on damage.

Squad Leader: Squad Leader is another group support kit, but easily the more powerful between Security Protocol and this one.
  1. Overwatch was touched on above, use it to keep your friends alive and your enemies debuffed to take more damage.
  2. Rally Cry has both an offensive and a defensive purpose. Offensively, it increases the damage of all of your team members who are in range, increases their crit chance and their crit severity. Defensively, it provides a small heal over time. Most importantly, it has a 25% chance (although it seems to have closer to a 66% chance) of exposing all enemy targets in 25m, through walls. This is absolutely devastating to an enemy group.
  3. Smoke Grenade is useful for messing with the perception of your opponents. If any of your team members are using any form of stealth abilities and they step into the cloud, they will be 100% undetectable no matter how high your opponents boost their perception.
  4. Photon Grenade is alright for damage, but certainly not a game changer.

Operative: I hate this kit with a passion. It takes the least amount of skill to use properly, and once you've used its main trick, you're basically a walking liability.
  1. Lunge is useful for getting in close with your opponent if you're using a Pulsewave Assault. It's also physical damage, which does half of its damage directly to your opponent's health. Use it to finish off weak opponents which have managed to regain their shields.
  2. Battle Strategies clears tactical debuffs in PvP like Surpressing Fire and Fire on My Mark as well as increasing your damage. Most Tactical Captains prefer to use it offensively, since they're sitting in cloak most of the time and not being shot at.
  3. Ambush is the heavy hitter of this kit. When you use it, you basically double the damage of your next attack
  4. Stealth Module makes you stealthy. Be careful, as it's not invisibility, and if you're not specced properly into stealth increasing abilities, you'll be seen from a mile away.
  5. A good combo for this kit: Activate Stealth Module, find your target, use all of your Tac buffs, Ambush, exit stealth, use Battle Strategies and Fire on My Mark, then blast your opponent.

Fire Team: This is the best offensive kit if you're not a coward and can stand being shot at. The offensive pressure of this kit is immense even after the first shot, unlike Operative. However, it's a very selfish kit as it offers no team support and if you're not careful, will get you killed often.
  1. Plasma Grenade is a hard hitting grenade that leaves a plasma fire behind.
  2. Ambush was described above. However, it's slightly better for this kit, which I'll touch on below.
  3. Battle Strategies clears tactical debuffs in PvP like Surpressing Fire and Fire on My Mark as well as increasing your damage. Most Tactical Captains prefer to use it offensively, since they're sitting in cloak most of the time and not being shot at.
  4. Ambush is the heavy hitter of this kit. When you use it, you basically double the damage of your next attack
  5. Use Suppressing Fire to lock down targets who were dumb enough to leave line of sight of their healers.
  6. A word on Ambush and Plasma Grenade: Currently, Plasma Grenades and the Klingon Honor Guard Pulsewave's secondary fire are bugged to not remove Ambush when used, but still gain all of the damage bonuses from it. I think you know where I'm going with this.
  7. Combo: Activate your tac buffs. Battle Strategies. Suppressing Fire. Hit your target a few times to make sure Suppressing Fire activates and they don't go anywhere. Use Ambush. Throw a Plasma Grenade. When the grenade lands at their feet if they haven't moved, launch your hardest hitting attack from your gun (secondary fire from a compression pistol, pulsewave assault or the type-3 phaser from the devidian missions). If you do this combo properly, the only things that will survive this are STF bosses, Elite difficulty captain level mobs and some really experienced PvP players. If the target did survive, you have Tactical Initiative to lower your cooldowns for round two. If they're STILL alive after doing it twice, the damage bonuses from Battle Strategies and Target Optics should be enough to finish it off.

My personal favourite is Fire Team. The sheer amount of burst damage it's capable of is godlike. In fact, I was doing a Khitomer Accord Ground Elite STF with my fleet. Three Tacticals all using Fire Team and two Science using the Borg Medical Analyzer. The Science officer used their Tachyon Harmonic to disable Donatra's shields and the Tacs went wild with the damage. I kid you not, she was vaporized in two seconds and I was left stunned. The amount of laughter over voice chat was the best.

Kit swapping for Tacs hasn't worked in forever as far as I'm aware. There are a few kits for other classes that still work when kit swapping, but it's an incredibly **** move and I hope nobody uses it. Cryptic has said they don't like it but they've done nothing to change it yet. Let's hope that changes soon.

edit: oh wow, this is an old thread. Well, hopefully someone will get some use out of it, as I doubt the original poster will these days.
