srsly a tactical captain in a star cruiser is a real noob indicator. i suggest you get yourself an escort and stick with it. You are wasting a lot of dmg potential by that cruiser choice.
you missed alot. I fly many ships with several toons and have fun in all of them. My current loadout is a tacscort with a defiant retrofit with DHC.

just because someone flies somethign you wouldn't like doesn't mean that person is a noob. Tacs can be effective in any ship with the right loadout just like Eng and Sci can as well.

as for the thread I thought it pretty much summed itself up in, mix and match. or is that not the consensus?

Believe it or not, we agree!

With the exception of the full Jem'Hadar set in a Galor or JHAS, mixing 2 Borg + 2 Omega or MACO pairs seems to work best. The 2-Borg pair (console + 1 other Borg component) gives your ship autonomous hull regeneration, while 2 Omega give you Tetryon Glider, or 2 MACO gives you 5% BO recharge speed.

None of the 3-set MACO nor Omega bonuses seem to outperform Borg Auto Hull Regen -- the latter is always on, while MACO and Omega's 3-set powers deliver only moderate damage at long 3 minute cool downs.

So what would people recommend for carriers as combo? 2P Omega + 2P borg?

Which carrier?

If you're Fed and want max survivability, go with 3-piece Borg, and MACO shields.
If you're Fed and want a mix of survivability + DPS then go for MACO/Borg.
If you're Fed and want extra shield-stripping ability and speed go for Omega/Borg.

If you're Klingon and want max survivability, go with 3-piece Borg, and KHG shields.
If you're Klingon and use Torpedos or AUX, go KHG/Borg.
If you're Klingon and don't use Torpedos or AUX, go Omega/Borg.

Always go for the Borg Console, and the other set's shields (MACO still being the best shield in the game). It then depends on what bonuses you're after whether you go for the engine or the deflector... (KHG engine is probably the best in the game, MACO Deflector gives +shield and +hull, Omega Engine is the most maneuverable at power levels >50) as the Borg choices both give power buffs, with the Borg deflector also granting some extra survivablity (though not as much as the MACO deflector).

I might be tempted to go for Omega/Borg in a Kar'fi, as it's the only carrier that has an even moderately decent turn rate (and can mount 4x DHC) but it'd be a tough choice to give up the extra torpedo damage. For the Atrox or Vo'Quv I think it'd be better off to go for the MACO/Borg or KHG/Borg options.

Seriously though, if I could swap the stats on the KHG shield with the MACO one, I'd slot the KHG shield and engine on EVERYTHING. They each outperform all the other options, and the KHG 2-piece set bonus is brilliant.

With the 2-piece Omega set, I get -29 shield reduction from each weapon. Not that impressive. I have no points in Flow Capacitors.

I have the 2-piece MACO set (shields and deflectors), as I find the defense capabilities and the set bonus more useful than the bump in accuracy and the tetryon glider.

I use the Omega engines, because of the shorter Transwarp cooldown and better turn radius.
I have full skill on that and I do 37. Before, I was doing 50. Without consoles.

I have engine and deflector Omega with MACO shield.

Thanks to everybody for the fun, sorry for my bad english.

I'm currently running MACO shields, and 2pc Jem'Hadar.

I'm in a Atrox with a drain build, shooting polarons. The flow capacitor stats on the deflector, along with the bonus to polaron damage, is doing more for me in this setup then Tetryon Glider. When I'm running tetryon beams instead of polaron, I switch the JH pieces for Omega.

When I feel I need a bit more survivability I swtich to MACO/Borg tho. Easily the highest survivability combination.

You don't need to have Tetryon weapons to use Tetryon Glider. It just adds extra damage to shields.

However, you do need to have polaron weapons to use the Jem H'dar set.
