Just had a random thought, how often/what do people think of using lower tier ships at level 50?
I ran one of my characters in the Escort Refit (Saber-class <3) from level 20 to until I could get a fleet retrofit for her ship for several weeks, and I thought it was a bit of fun, especially fighting the Breen in an underlevelled FAWscort and not dying horribly all the time.
I was talking more along the lines of regular use for a tier 3/4 ship (IE, the LRSV, the Sao Paulo or the Ar'kif warbird) as opposed to occasional T1trolling a STF, but hey, discussion is discussion.
The other day I made a mistake and got stuck in the spire STF in a Gallileo.
Was crazy but we beat it.
I don't think I like the T4 ships enough to play them past Captain level. The Defiant can get replaced well by a lot of choices. The Galaxy was never fun to fly at that level. And though I LOVE the look of the Intrepid, I usually want to get out of that ship pretty quickly when I hit RA Lower Half too.
Thing is I think you can get away with it far easier doing T3 ships at T5. The Nebula and Excelsior, most people would just think were Fleet versions. Same with the Stargazer/Cheyenne thingie.
Well.... there are people who are really, really bad at building ships, that have no idea how to put things on their ship that synergize well. Some people are good at things, some people are bad at things. Some people just don't have any clue how to build ships. Some people, are really good. And sometimes.... people that are really bad at ships builds have good ships, and people that are really good at ship builds, use "bad" ships. So... yeah.
I sort of consider it trolling because you're using a massively, possibly even dangerously underlevelled ship in endgame content... but since endgame content is so incredibly easy in endgame level ships, it's less trolling and more "Hard mode enable".
