I thought roleplaying was trying your best to ignore the guy doing jumping jacks in front of you while you're trying to have a tender moment with another roleplayer.

Indeed. That and the zillions of conversations in an enclosed space is annoying, tiresome, and prevents anyone from writing and logging a proper plot.

There's much more room to roleplay in space.. and there's much less typing, more pew pew!

  • How to use this channel:

    • Channel Topic: ROLEPLAY for characters, ships and fleet starbases in distress and general gameplay help, any discussion on this topic is cool, any discussion not on this topic is not cool.

    • Primary Topic: At any time when you feel you require assistance, whether you be apart of Starfleet or the KDF, simply use the channel to send a distress signal in an RP format, for example "This is the [Ship Name], we're in [Insert Situation], requesting assistance in [Insert System/Sector Block]." and then send a team invite to the player who responds to your distress signal so that they can join you in your mission. This is most helpful when playing on the Elite difficulty setting.

    • Auxiliary Topic: Alternatively the channel can be used to provide general help to others, give tips, advice, etc...

    • Recommended Channel Colour: D2 which is a light red, you can change a custom channel's colour via Chat Settings, under the "Tabs" tab.

    • Also Foundry authors are very welcome to create missions specifically for this type of scenario, for this channel, and players are welcome to suggest player authored missions to use via this channel.

    • In the future it will be possible for your fleet starbase to come under attack, in which case you can send out a distress signal. I believe it will also be possible for non-fleet members to be invited to new fleet actions, in which case if required a distress signal can be sent out.
I like this idea

In Klingon culture, it's business (with disruptors) first, and talk later. RPing falls in the latter category

Klingon ships don't send distress calls, they divert power to engines to ram!

Captain B'vat did that in "Night of the Comet". Doesn't mean all of the Klingons do it....probably.

But it is just as honorable to fight by another warrior's side when he realizes even his considerable skills are not enough for a particular task. Otherwise why swear blood oaths with your comrades or family when someone has wronged you?

Don't forget, not all KDF officers are Klingon...

Glad many of you approve of the channel so far, I'll be working on awareness of the channel as well as something a little more special in the coming weeks which is foundry related.

That's something I hope to explore in RP or fanfics someday actually. The mission scripts provided in STO currently only accurately depict the major culture of the Federation or KDF, which means the KDF lacks an Orion viewpoint, and the Federation doesn't have an [argue] option or a [logic] option if one ever played a Tellarite or a Vulcan respectively.

Probably something I can explore in foundry missions someday - race specific character responses.

Of course, if I were a 'client' race serving the KDF I would definitely have to respect the prevailing culture (which means knowing how Klingon honor systems worked) but it doesn't override the officer's own unique personality entirely.

This concept is a gamechanger to me. It balances RP with combat. Im down with responding to distress calls. The idea will greatly enhance gameplay.

Just bear in mind not all 'reinforcement requests' are not as interesting or combat intensive as what I normally host.

Other Captains' needs may differ. Some just want a little chat to borrow your hyperspanner. Lol.
