My new mission The Fire In Which We Burn is now live, or at least still in the review stage depending on when you read this.

It is a Klingon mission - any level.

It is a 45 minute story adventure, best played solo and on normal difficulty. It touches on many aspects from across the shows. Enterprise fans may enjoy it more and it helps to have an understanding of the events of that series, but not critical to play or enjoy.

Hope you all like it.

----------Report Start-----------

Summary: This is a great mission. I highly recommend this mission to all Klingon faction players who love the sting of tough and glorious battles combined with great story dialogue and excellent map design. Creating a good Klingon mission is not easy but you definitely pulled it off. The mission has a very familiar flavor to it stemming from the roots of the episodes of the “Enterprise” series. I won’t say too much more and risk giving a spoiler.

There were a couple of places where you used NPC, non-story line driven dialogue. This dialogue would be available for the player to talk to at any point during the map. Most of the NPC dialogue was nice filler and helped flesh out the story; however the issue I mention is a result of the dialogue being optional on the map and therefore it would not disappear. There are ways to trigger optional map dialogue that once read through disappears. I used it on my mission “Contamination” after reading through some articles on here and Starbase UGC about optional dialogue and interactions. It works well and gives a layer to the story that truly allows the player to retrieve the optional dialogue if they go looking for it. I felt that your story might benefit from these triggers as well.

Below are a couple of things I noted while playing the mission that I wanted to let you know about. Everything in this write up should be seen as suggestions on ways I felt you could improve certain elements of the mission. They are yours to do with as you see fit.

Mission Description: This is a good description. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this description.

Grant Mission Dialogue: This is a good grant dialogue. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this dialogue.

Mission Task: This is a good initial task with a clear start location of the first custom map. I one item to consider changing:
-Consider changing “Go to the Chos Nebula” to read “Go to the ChoS nebula”.

Mission Entry Prompt: This is a good use of the prompt. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this prompt.

MAPS:
Kell'taQ System: This is a good map design with a good battle. The story dialogue was well written even though there was some use of the response button “Continue” it was appropriate for the dialogue. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this dialogue or any issues with the map.

Facility Interior: This is a great map design with lots of glorious battles. The story dialogue is well written and your use of the response button “Continue” is appropriate for the dialogue it followed. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this dialogue. I noted one item to consider changing:
-Consider making the optional "Talk to Klingon Scientist" dialogue triggered map dialogue so once the player talks to the scientist the option disappears.

Timeship Mobius: This is a good map design. The story dialogue is well written. I noted a couple of items to consider changing:
-Consider making the crew dialogue triggered map dialogue so once the player talks to the crew the option disappears.
-The "Captain Bronan" dialogue; consider changing "outpost in the Chos Nebula" to read "outpost in the ChoS Nebula".
-Consider changing "in the Chos Nebula" to read "in the ChoS Nebula".

Alternate Kell'taQ System: This is a good map design. The story dialogue is well written. I noted one item to consider changing:
-The initial dialogue; consider changing "Now it's little more that rock and molten larva" to read "Now it's little more than rock and molten lava".

Na'kuhl Ship: This is a good map design with glorious battles. The story dialogue is very well done. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this dialogue or any issues with the map.

Return to Kell'taQ System: This is a good map design with a glorious series of tough battles. The story dialogue is very well written. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this dialogue or any issues with the map.

Ready Room: This is a good map design with excellent story dialogue that serves to wrap up the mission. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this dialogue or any issues with the map.

---------End Report----------

Thanks again for authoring and for giving me the chance to review your work. You did a great job in developing a great Klingon mission. I look forward to playing/reviewing more of your work in the future.
Brian

Hey Revo,

Can pm you, so I found this thread. I need a 255 x 255 ad for your older spotlight mission, to be put on the sidebar of sbugc with the other spotlight winners.

Please email it admin@starbaseugc.com.

Most of this mission was great, but I am unable to finish, even on normal. After the honor guard gets wiped out the next three ships at once are just unbeatable with any equipment, skills, abilities, or strategies at my disposal. I mean really ... even when I pull just one ship it tractor beams me and hits me with three or four plasma torpedoes all at once??? Sure I could shoot 'em down ... if I had eight weapons or immediate weapon recharge. As is I can see no way to finish this. I tried about 30 times, many strategies. Any advice appreciated. Doing this at level 27 in fairly normal/decent gear. What am I missing?

Addendum: I tried again a half dozen times. This appears to be a no-win scenario. My best strategies resulted in a hopeful positions with some damage on the target, only to have the second or third ship engage and again be hit with a tractor beam (or two) and seemingly endless plasma torpedoes.

Stupid.
Im sorry you feel that way but its the 6th or 7th highest rated klingon mission with close to 700 play though. I'd hardly call that a no win scenario.

if you started on a higher difficulty setting then perhaps you have not exited the whole mission and its still on a high difficulty. I have tested this mission myself many times and have no problems. either that or it would suggest perhaps one of your power settings is wrong or something is wrong with your gear. its not an easy battle but its not meant to be super tough.

there is enough space between the enemy ships that if you fly south and then approach the ships carefully you can take them one by one without attracting the attention of the others

I'm not discounting operator error on my part, it's just that I've not run into anything apparently this difficult in any of the other missions. I am rather new to STO and it's likely I am missing some abilities or strats that would allow me to survive the barrage of plasma torpedoes. Difficulty is set on normal. My Klingon isn't nearly as well geared as my Fed, this may be part of the problem. To survive the barrage, near as I can tell I need either a) MUCH stronger shields, like 4X or 5X, or b) weapons to come back online nearly instantly, or c) a way to get out of the tractor beam and restealth to avoid the torps.

Any advice will be appreciated.

I was quite frustrated when I wrote my original comments; I intend to edit the post to reflect my normal level of civility. I do appreciate the effort you've put into creating this and other missions. Please do note I said most of the mission was quite enjoyable.

these ships are just reskined romulan d'deridex warbirds or morgai escorts (i forget which). Keep your distance for one thing. the big Plasma torps can be shot down. the moment you see them start targeting them. also the brace for impact power will protect you from kinetic damage on all torps and minimise the damage done to you. use it a couple of seconds before it hits you.

click on your shield quadrants to replenish your strength in the weakened area and make sure you have powers like engineering team to heal your hull and science team to heal your shields.

try to pick one side of the enemy ship and target it. focus your fire on the shield quadrant and expose their hull as quickly as possible.

as i mentioned above try to position yourself south of the map so that your take the enemy group one at a time. dont just aim for the middle one and get caught on all 3 sides.

see if you can buy a few extra bits of gear in the exchange that are cheap or the dilithium store to boost your weapon/console strength. make sure you have spent all your skills points, especially in areas such as weapons, shields and hull fo your character and your boffs space abilities. its easy to forget to spend them.

Thanks for the tips Revo, I did manage to finish the mission. Grasping the 5K (?) limit for the torps helped immensely, as did pulling them into my minefield. Pretty sure my gear is substandard - I've just been trying to level up and worry about gear later. Got an upgraded shield out of it too. Thanks again.
