# 1 Design a Trek Villain contest?

A couple of background factoids:

1) Champions Online recently got the uber cool "Alert" system:

2) Dan said we are getting this system too:

3) It was just announced on the Champs site that they are having a "design a villain" contest, and the winners will actually be made in game as villains you fight in "Alerts":

With all of that in mind, I wonder if such a thing would ever be possible for STO's "Alerts"? Considering you fight factions in STO rather than single villains(for the most part), it might have to be something along the lines of designing a new species that is hostile and attacks, or maybe even some kind of epic villain like Khan. What do you think would make sense in STO?

I think for STO, a hostile species would make more sense than singular villains. And we do have a handful of generic species already in the game that are nothing more than cannon fodder.

Coming soon: Vito'D Invasion :p

A little of both.

Examples: some new class of Borg vessel, super drone, or mini-queen. New Romulan commander and/or flagship. Or new specific Voth, Hirogen, Tholian, or countless other little seen races as the reason to stir up trouble.

Or: Macro virus race(s). Yuuzhan Vong style organic starship race. Or combo of the two, sentient planet eatting organic world ships. Extra-galactic species.

How about we leave Star Wars out of our Star Trek?

You guys have a hard time with "example" eh?

The Undine and Vong are about as alike as Starfleet and the Dominion.

Sometimes trying to be *very* exotic makes things feel contrived. Something that fits in better would be better.

I'm no fan if the Borg themselves but they could provide the next "villian". Let's say that the natural forces of chaos produce within the Collective a strain if sentient or semi-sentient nanite. This new artificial life form is capable of attacking the Borg on a fundamental level and in ways they can't defend against without basically changing what it is. The aggressive strain of nanites hollows out and devours entire systems full of Borg to fuel its own cancer-like growth leaving behind horrific skeletal Borg graveyards. In a desperate bid for survival the Collective calves off entire sections of itself that redesign themselves and try to adapt to the rogue nanites without success.

The now hopelessly divided and newly individualistic Collectives realize that they are lost. The nanites will not stop and the idea of assimilation as it was known is not in play. The new nanite cancer simply *digests* everything it wants. If it takes you there's nothing left to "rescue".

Then the various powers receive the very first distress call from the Borg. To survive the monster mother nature has brought forth the new collective of collectives need everyone else as badly as they're going to need the shattered remains of the Collective.

I would fully support a Super Villain contest.

Sounds like fun!

Especially giving them a dark twisted back-story in the STO universe

Im not sure a super villain fits STO very well. At least not in this kind of random pop-up Alerts.

The Borg Queen trying to steal all the candy from ESD ?

C'runch the Klingon shaving Admiral Quinns favourite Tribble.... Again ?!

Or Bob the Romulan painting mustaches on all the portraits in your duty roster ?

Humor aside, at least nothing with any Borg in it, please ?

The only things that Red Alerts could do would be the same as Borg Incursions, you have a timer to destroy x amount of groups and then fight a command ship.

Problem is Red Alerts are currently Borg only and even if they replace them with Klingon or Romulan it would be significant easier that current ones, now if people accept this events are just lass difficult that the Borg ones I dont think this would be a problem as currently the Borg ones are really for RA and above, not that lower level characters cannot do then but they have no real chance of destroying the command ship without a few higher level characters that know how to do it, but I suspect the usual crowd will complain they are too easy, even if they pretty much work like Fleet Actions people would be expecting things to challenge lv50+.

I will applaud if they actually allow character under Admiral level to actually HAVE events they can play, the game might be lacking on End Game content but people also play lower level characters and they should not rush to lv 50 to have access to events.
