Newish to the game, not to games, and definitely not star trek. Currently enjoying riding solo, have chatted with a few other players along the way, but must get into a fleet.
Was wondering, though, how long do others keep their ships, i like many others i hope, build little back stories for my characters, and on rising to Lt Commander, i took command of a Rhode Island Class vessel, which for my character was her first command, which i plan to keep as my ship until i reach captain.
Do others trade up straight away? or do you find you-self grown attached to your ship? I know I have
like you i'm newish to the game, but watched Star Trek (original series) first run and have been a fan ever since. I typically don't play games, but had to try this one and i'm now addicted. i'm surprised that i actually enjoy working on ships so much as far as trying out consoles, paint jobs, officers, etc.
i like having the best ship i can get my hands on. i seem to do best with cruisers aka "tanks", but use escorts for a break. i had to have the Odyssey pack and have no regrets getting that set. i typically use the operations cruiser and after that the tactical. i also like my vulcan ship, but i don't see others using that one very often. I wonder why?
basically i have some ships i'm attached to and others that do little for me, so when a new and better ship comes along i will have no trouble making room for it without buying slots.
All of my starships are still commissioned. I view it as the US Navy views the USS Constitution which is still a US comissioned warship and is still on the US navy registry. In my sense my starships are still comissioned but they are in what I call my personal reserve fleet. When ever I am tasked with a specific mission that my primary "warship" cant handle I pull out the most properly outfitted starship up to the task and use that.
Hell I even took my NX class replica and ran it over to starbase 24 and it did amazingly well even though I only had three weapons on the whole starship.
But since I am an admiral I tend to have my pick of starships and typically if I am not going into a warzone I just take the typical Ambasador`s pick known as the Excelisor class.
Well ive just reached Commander L25. And I'm still going strong with my Rhode Island class The St Leonard. Where with stronger enemies, i find some strategy comes into play, and it is most certainly not a ship to go in all weapons blazing it still has my affection. I've commissioned an Olympic type ship, that has only been used in time travel missions, sticking to my own story of my characters, and a reasonable explanation why a Commander may be required in-between two vessels. So where i plan on taking Command of new ship when i reach captain, i hope to keep that for a long time before hopefully taking on a new cruiser cryptic may come up with in a year or two's time
Each ship lasted as long I was able to upgrade to the next tier. Once I got to Tier 5, I flew the Sovereign until I had enough money to buy the Galaxy-X and I flew it until the Excelsior came out. I've been in the Excelsior ever since.
I keep my ships until I need the room for something else. When I got the free Odyssey, I had to get rid of my Nova to make room for it. But I still have my Miri, because I know I can't just buy it back.
I've just jumped back in my Connie refit, stating it's been pulled out of mothballs for a training cruise (a friend just started, and I was helping show her the ropes). Of course, in true Star Trek fashion, on the way back to earth, i got a distress call and went to investigate. Just had my one little ship fend off a Cardassian attack force at a deuterium station. Exploded once, and had to call in fleet support, but it was a great fight. Came close to a warp core breach a number of times, but my determined crew were able to pull her back from the brink.
The older ships may not be as powerful, but with a good crew, and the right skills, they can sure take a pounding.
