I've recently started reading StarTrek: The Return, which is set right after the end of StarTrek: Generations and was written by William Shatner. In it is a Defiant class ship that is extremely powerful. Close to the begining of the book is a ship that I think would make a great model/insperation for a new escort ship, possibly a +1 fleet escort. I'll quote the book so you all can see that it IS cannon.
"Most Starfleet vessels were duranium white, proudly bearing the Federation's colors, boldly lit by running lights and identification beacons so all would recognize them on their missions of exploration.
But not all Starfleet missions involved exploration.
And some Starfleet vessels were as dark as the void between the stars, intentionally coated in microdiffracted carbon to absorb all visible radiation that fell upon them.
The U.S.S. Monitor was one such vessel, the latest in the Defiant-class, space black, on silent running, closing in on a dying, ancient world deep in the Core Frontier. Its destination: New Titan.
The ship was little more than an armored command saucer with integral warp nacelles. Over-powered, densely shielded, excessively armed, carrying more weaponry than three Galaxy-class starships. She was the result of Starfleet's fevered preparations to fight a war against the Borg. A war that had yet to come to pass."
By this passage, found at the begining of chapter five, there are ships in the Federation that are pure warships. I propose a +1 fleet escort that follows this setup. the stats would be pretty much as follows:
•Minimum Rank: Vice Admiral (level 50)
•Weapons: 6 Fore, 6 Aft
•Bridge Officers: 1 Commander Tactical, 1 Lieutenant Commander Tactical, 1 Lieutenant Commander Engineering, 1 Lieutenant Engineering, 1 Lieutenant Science
•Consoles: 5 Tactical, 4 Engineering, 3 Science
•Turn Rate: 15 degrees per second
•Impulse Modifier: 0.45
•Hull Strength: 50,000
•Shield Modifier: 1.5
•+25 Power to Weapons
•+10 Power to Shields
•Can load cannons
•Unique console: Battle Cloak - only equipable on this ship
As you can see, not quite 3 times the firepower of a Galaxy class ship, but still armed to the teeth and able to dish out massive amounts of damage in just a few seconds. I know that it'll never happen due to 'balance issues', but it's still cannon and an offical Starfleet ship.
Very awesome escort that would become, hence forth you shall be known as... Overpowered... Escort.
Is this a joke or? You realize that releasing such a 'innovative' new escort will pretty much devalue all other escorts around right?
Its a game dude, and everyone in this game likes to see everything somewhat balanced. you ever played single player games when u were younger? Enabling cheat codes? God mode? You liked that dont you? But after a day, or a few days, or a week, the game begins to get very boring. No?
I think cannon is less important then keeping this game from going nuts, no disrespect intended.
Did ANYBODY read the quoted section of the book? It appears that the answer would be a resounding "H#^L NO!" The quoted section states that it has 3 times the weaponry of a Galaxy class ship. To translate that directly to the game I'd have to double the weapons slots, which would make the ship practically useless. I did what I could to try to give it what the book describes when it comes to the game's terms. I guess that despite all the bickering and complaining, NOBODY wants a Fed ship that's cannon and a speficically designed warship.
Admin, Moderators, delete this thread, It's just going to attract flamers and trolls.

Instead, this is what I’d do with the ship you are talking about from the book.
