Due to the proliferation of combat fighter pets in the game, I believe it is now time to offer automated defensive weaponry as a countermeasure option for both the KDF and Federation. These new weapons should work similarly to the Automated Defense Turret that came with the Digital Deluxe Edition of Star Trek Online.

The New Beam Weapons (available in all energy types) would work automatically within a limited range of up too, and not to exceed 6km. These automated weapons would primarily target Drones, fighters, mines and destructible Torpedoís.

The automated beam weapons would be receiving a bonus damage modifier against all primary targets.
Secondary targets would be enemy ships. The weaponry would receive a damage reduction modifier or penalty against secondary targets.

The trade off to these weapons is limited range and lower overall DPS with the loss of a weapon slot. The Benefit is better protection against mines, drones/fighters and destructible objects.

The reason Iím suggesting that automated defense Beam Weapons are added into the game is because it is extremely difficult to specifically target enemy fighters and drones in the game; especially when latency is sometimes affected and/or the large number of pets/spam completely blocks out your view.

Sure, mines, Fire At Will and torpedo spreads are nice mob cleaning tools along with various other methods; but just being able to kill them without the frustration of specifically having to target them is well worth losing a Beam Array or turret of DPS.

BFAW? point defence system ?
i doubt cryptic will add anything like what you want , they may make the tac console available on the c-store at some point ( but i doubt it ) and even then its not fantastic at taking out fighters , mine mainly goes for mines and torpedoes.

on another note , why now ? we've managed with the KDF having fighters for this long , i doubt the kitty carrier is going to tip the balance askew

There are just so many more options now to launch even more stuff... I saw a guy on Kerrat yesterday that had so many Drones on him that I couldn't see his Oddissy Cruiser at all. I cleared the spam off of him, healed him up and in seconds he was covered aft to fore all over again.

In PUG PVP, the spam is so bad that I won't even PUG right now.

There is the Automated Defense Turret which is very effective against Tricobalt Torpedoes, High Yield Plasma Torpedoes, and Fighters or it was if they buffed up the torpedoes HP. However, it was part of the Digital Deluxe Edition and is extremely rare. Why they have not put it on the C-Store is beyond me since it would be one of their most profitable items since everyone, but people in cloaked ships should use it.

Also Point Defense only real purpose is destroying fighter squadrons.

You can still get that edition from many places, a quick search will find it.
I got one a month or so ago after seeing the news Fed carrier was coming for sure since Klingon side there is no point defense system like you get on the Federation Thunderchild escort.
Once you get it, both sides can use it.
I even think it's better than the Thnderchild version since it auto fires, unlike the one from the escort that you have to manually activate and then has a cooldown before you can use it again.

The problems with the Digital Deluxe Automated Defense Turret Console are:

1) It takes up a TAC slot. Not Universal.
2) It's damage is low. That said, it is high enough for most projectiles, except the B'Ger Uber Torp and perhaps enhanced HY Torp from the Reman sets. It does crappy damage against fighters.
3) It's range is poor (5k, I think?)
4) It's Rate of fire is sadly slow.

That said, it does have some positives:

1) It is unlocked account wide.
2) Like stated above, it's functional against most torps.
3) It's Fire-And-Forget/Automatic
4) Mildly unknown fact: It can target some normal (non-fighter) craft.

I would say it's time for Cryptic to update this console. At the very least, they should make it universal.

Very true, i use mine for levelling the first 30 levels or so to take out the mines ect, its a nice little item to have but is quite redundant at the higher levels - allthough i currently have mine on my Delta Flyer set up for the Vault missions, its quite nice for a little ping attack on that
