# 1 SHIP Feedback and Leveling
05-06-2012, 04:09 PM
First, love the game. I'm F2P who avoided this game based on bad reviews at Amazon. I'm sorry I did. Since, I have bought CP and made use of the store.

On the subject of ships, I always mourn the loss of my ship as I level up to where I select a new, better ship. But this is where I have some feedback and a suggestion.

Through the movies, the Enterprise went through a few refits that upgraded its potential drastically. I know some of this is covered with ship options and refits.

BUT, let's say someone wants to keep that Constitution class they CP-purchased? Or that beautiful K'Tinga? Why couldn't the respective sides put the latest and more efficient equipment into such ship?

I want to see Constitution classes at level 50. And K'Tingas.

If you can put 4 weap slots fore and aft in an escort half the size of a Constitution class, then you sure as heck could refit that Constitution to have at least the same load-out as a level 50 escort. Not that I desire that specifically, but the point is, there is certainly room to do so.

SUGGESTION: give the option to upgrade your ship to the next level/rank of standard ship (for example, a Ktinga to a Vorcha, or a cp-purchased Constitution to a Constitution Refit)) by modifying the lower ranked version with all the slots the higher version has for a COST - EC, dilith, or both. This provides a dilith and/or EC sink while giving us players the satisfaction of using our most favorite ships.

This way, for a price, we can advance our favorite, beloved ships, such as the CP-purchased Constitution to a Constitution Refit, then to a Stargazer, then to a Galaxy, and finally to an Assault Cruiser (and even more) while maintaining the original Constitution skin - for a cost.

I see no losses in this.

You're not the first to have wished for this.

When I first started playing, my immediate goal was to get my hands on the Intrepid-class, and I've grown quite attached to it. However, I currently fly an Odyssey because it has the weapon slots and BOff station configurations that best suits me.

Let's break it down, shall we?
  • Hull / Crew complement - This should NOT increase as one levels. For the former, the competence of a Captain does not affect the structural strength of a starship, and for the latter, the physical size of a ship obviously limits how many people they can carry.

  • Weapon slots - STO's weapon slots are actually far less than what the ships actually have in-canon. For instance, the Intrepid-class had five torpedo launchers (2 fore, 2 aft, 1 dorsal) and thirteen phaser banks, compared with three fore and three aft universal slots in game.

Therefore, it wouldn't be amiss to allow people to purchase additional weapon slots up to a maximum of four fore and aft. This number is basically the limit due to the required keybinds.

  • BOff stations - Different players have different playing styles, and I personally cannot understand why they should be limited by the class of ship they fly. Players should be able to reconfigure BOff slots up to a total of 12 powers. As posted in another thread:

    Cmdr Tac (4) - Lt Tac (2) - Lt Cmdr Eng (3) - Lt Cmdr Sci (3)

not only are you not the first to suggest this, cryptic themselves has mentioned making this possible.

i've heard everything from CP transactions to something dealing with the announced fleet starbase mechanic.

so it's likely, people would buy it (i would), so now i think it's a matter of when.

I agree. The ship doesn't magically grow.

Weapons, shields, consoles, and to an odd extent BOFF slots are a function of efficiency, not size.

Crew and hull = size.

Pretty much agree with the OP. I'd love to bring my NX escort to an STF without getting yelled at.

You can still use 'old' ships at endgame level; it's just much harder. If you want a challenge, try fighting an endgame-level Borg Cube with an NX.
