Stardate 89952.76

I awoke the day after Starfleet Academy graduation with a Vodka induced hangover. The pain made worse by the ringing sound of my communicator. The Academies Commandant Herthel asked to see me as soon as possible. Apparently he has new orders. I had hoped it would have taken a week or so before my first assignment arrived. No such luck.

The Commandant ordered me to collect my gear and report to Admiral Quinn on Earth Space Dock. The Commandant was recommending me for command of a starship. Strange considering I just graduated the Academy. I had believed I would be assigned to an Engineering department on some ship, not overall command. Perhaps I misunderstood the commandant. He also instructed me to recruit a bridge officer before leaving the Academy. What does an Engineer need with a bridge officer?

Collected my gear and recruited a female Andorian tactical officer named Zylla. I never could get the hang of these alien names. What is wrong with names like Olga, Irina or even Katarina? Perhaps Zylla can be given a nickname. Maybe just call her Z. Ran the thought past her. She dropped her tablet on the deck. My guess is she does not like to be called anything other than Zylla.

Zylla and I then beamed up to Earth Space Dock. I found Admiral Quinn’s office and reported for duty as instructed. The Admiral assigned me as captain of a Starship. I asked him why so soon? The admiral explained that the recent war with the Klingons has forced him to promote younger officers then he would normally be accustomed to doing. Glad it was not my merit that landed me the job!

Admiral Quinn gave me orders to take my new ship and locate and overdo Bolian Freighter named the SS AZURA as soon as possible. He suggested I should start by obtaining her last known coordinates from the space dock. I was able to get the coordinates from Malcom Sissel.

I reported to my new ship. Admiral Quinn had named her the USS FORT ROSS, to honor my Russian heritage. Apparently there is a small Russian Fort on the California Coast north of San Francisco that led to the Inspiration. The FORT ROSS is a Centaur class light cruiser with Sagittarius style hull markings.

Entered sector space and set a course to the SS AZURA’s last known position, somewhere near the Andria system. I wish the Admiral had given us more time to prepare. We haven’t had the chance to run any tactical drills, and there are still a few empty bridge officer positions. I spoke with Ensign Zylla, who believes she can compensate by upgrading our torpedoes should we encounter any trouble. I hope for our sake we are only chasing down a freighter with engine trouble.

Dropped out of warp and found the SS AZURA where she was supposed to be, and four Orion Corvettes that were not. Two of the Corvette’s continued firing on the AZURA while the other two broke off their attack and engaged us. It took some time to dispatch all four Orion ships. The FORT ROSS handled herself well. Turning appeared better at slower speeds. Ensign Zylla was correct; her upgraded torpedoes came in handy. Still wish I could call her Z.

I beamed aboard the SS AZURA with Zylla and a security away team. Once there we found multiple plasma breaches and Orion Boarding parties. We had to fight our way to engineering while also trying to repair the breaches. Once at engineering I contained the warp coil breach by re-routing life support to a level 10 Force field around the coil. We then escorted some of the AZURA’s wounded crew to the transporter room and beamed back to the FORT ROSS.

Once back onboard, two more Orion Corvette’s dropped out of warp. This time I was more confident. After all we had not long before defeated four of these ships, what trouble could two more be? We were able to dispatch both of them as expected only to have an Orion Marauder Battle Cruiser drop out of warp. It took all our skill to survive this encounter. The crew did a great job keeping both the shields and the hull above eight five percent through the fight. We came to fear the Marauders torpedo attacks and when they came in salvo’s every few minutes, we attempted to turn our best shield toward them. In the end, we were victorious.

The SS AZURA was saved, and she decided to head to Starbase 24 on her own impulse engines for repairs. Admiral Quinn was very pleased and awarded us two more bridge officers. Just like Starfleet, hold off on additional help until you do not need them! I look forward to meeting these two new officers…… I only hope I can pronounce their names.

That's a very detailed log. Well written but try to format the text a little - one empty line between paragraphs, etc.
