I fly a Galaxy-R completely fitted out with the full Borg set and purple Mk XI gear. When I got it and fitted it last summer before F2P it was the best gear available.
I also have an Assault Cruiser as well fitted out similarly just for fun but I am having trouble discerning which one is more powerful. I am in the Galaxy-R 90% of the time anyway.
I was born severely disabled as a child fighting for my life , Star Trek The Next Generation was a supreme benefit for me during that time. Seeing someone disabled (Geordi La Forge) in charge of piloting the Enterprise-D and eventually in a critically important command role in charge of the engineering department was invaluable to me. Data's daily struggles to fit in and become more human mirrored my own struggles to fit in with my peers with physical limits they simply could not comprehend.
The Enterprise-D was almost like a second home for me. It was a place where people like myself had an actually fair chance at life, or at very minimum a representation of such a place. Seeing it destroyed in such a pathetic manner in Generations was a hard blow. I was in my young teens then (I was born in 1982) and I honestly cried. To be honest it still upsets me a little today.
I play Star Trek Online specifically because it lets me live out a countless number of my childhood fantasies and dreams. When I first learned of this game I played the trial and then within a matter of days I bought a copy at GameStop. I am currently trying to save up for a lifetime membership by the end of the year simply because I want to support the game further.
I have a Galaxy-R fitted much the same as yours - a mix of XI and XII Borg gear, with the borg module/deflector/engine/shields. I change between this and a Defiant-retrofit, equipped much the same way but with MACO shields etc. I find this one more fun to fly as it's SO shooty (I can pretty much take out a Bird-of-Prey in one volley, and then a second & third in shot succession if I set up properly).
I was raised in the era of DS9 & Voyager, but only remember seeing snippets. Then I had a reepiphany, which got me to get the first ten film boxset and start rewatching the series. When the game went F2P (no way I can go gold on a student budget!), I had to get it - it's like Starship Creator but with all the things I wish I could have done.
I know a lot of people criticise the game but I really enjoy it.
Sovereign Class. Why, because she is my favourite ship and in game is fits well with my playing style. I amd using now mark XII gear. Use to use the full borg set but for some reason the borg shields go down really easy in when pvping?
My best ship was my Galaxy class only because of the dominion weapons I had on it. Now waiting for that FEE rerun so I can upgrade it as I don;t really think this oddy I have is cut out to take out Derderix warships
For flying around going pew-pew really fast and getting blow to smitherines I have those cute little Escorts that go boom really pretty. When I want to live through a scenario I fly a Soverign with a Science Officer in command. Nothing like tanking with a photonic fleet at your back.
(edit - Made Vice Admiral right after writing this and went STF'ing with an Odyssey that was only rolling with VR Mk X. Wow! there's a difference.)
I was flying a VA Bellerophon and doing very well. She's a good ship. I tried the Atrox and although she is awesome, I don't get the Star Trek feel from her I came here for. I grew up during TOS and that's why I'm here.
I'm not a big fan of the more recent series like DS9 or Voyager. I actually enjoyed Enterprise more than either. I'll be switching to the Odyssey, it's a beast and still retains enough of that traditional aesthetic to suit my tastes.
