Hell, my faith in Cryptic is so gone I even thought about playing my Fed just for something different to do....
But I couldn't find the will to bother.......
I, am Speechless, The single biggest supporter of the KDF, ever. Has now thrown in the towel.
Thanks Cryptic, you, and your hard work at this game, has done so much...
to destroy the very thing you need to survive.
Die hard supporters.
Oh and Roach, you'd not like the Fed side anyhow, we make you brush your hair.
We'll see what happens with starbases. They haven't quite abandoned STO yet.
said it before and ill say it again.... have 0 interest in starbases. 0.
And even if I did, i have had experiences in too many other games that you waste your in game time and money and resources to contribute these guild things only to log in and find some drama took place and its just you and some guy who hasnt logged in in 6 months still there or the 5 people who actually run the guild all went back to wow or whatever.
In 6 months there will probably be ghost bases all over just like in SWG how there would be vacant towns everywhere.
I'm honestly not all the angry or bitter per se - in the end, it's just a game. What does drive me nuts i9s still seeing for example:
" boilerplate answer
I'm just tired of hearing teh same pat answers of stuff I don't think we'll ever see in STO for multiple years - if ever.
I'd also like to see them take some responsibility in the end and NOT blame:
- Staff size.
- Atari
- PWE
Hell, both Stormshade and PWE_Branflakes love to talk about how 'independent' Cryptic is - yet when we hear of all the things 'under evaluation' - we also hear - "after talking with PWE" or "We have toi justify to PWE..."
Either cryptic is independent, or it's not - and (IMO) being tied and answerable to PWE isn't always a bad thing per se; but if Cryptic is tied to that point, quit coming out and stating how 'independent' you still are, when you're simple not.
I'm just getting tired of seeing the same excuses and rationalizations
I must say Arms, I agree with you, and between us, i by far am harsher on them than you. and if this doesn't get the attention of Cryptic (which, IMO, based on history, it will not) then they will once again miss the mark and things will just get worse.
They have become very good at providing reasons why they can't get things done as of late, and that to me, speaks, volumes, if you will about how things are going here.
Stop making excuses, and start doing. If you can't then don't assign the blame to anyone else but those who deserve it, which currently, is the one single constant in this if you ask me, and that, is Cryptic.
How is this revamp (or any other thing that Gozer might plan) going to teach newcomers to PVP ?
Because I think that about 70-90% of the players who do try PVP (usually after they have leveled up and are looking 4 things to do) -- get creamed in their first few matches and leave and don't look back .
How can we (or Gozer) make PVP user friendly ?
I'm asking this because I see that the first phase of Gozer's plan is very similar to his F2P STF plan ,
namely : create an easy(er) access to the formation of teams .
Yet Level 50 PVP is often much harder so survive then Elite STF's , and many casual players have difficulty playing those .
I have seen valiant offering by members of the PVP fleets to teach players about builds and tactics , but honestly , without playing a decent amount of PVP , you can't turn into a decent PVP player .
And a few dedicated players (even a few dozen) can't teach hundreds or even thousands of players ... unless they have a dedicated website w/tutorial videos for tactics and builds (like StarbaseUGC has for the Foundry for example) .
Good point... Nobody likes trying something out and getting steamrolled as if they are 100 levels below their enemy.
I suppose the bigger question should be "Is it worth getting non-pvp minded STO players to care about PVP?" Personally, I don't think so. I'm sure there are a percentage of players who would pick it up but if this is really about making PVP something decent it needs massive participation from the players, a very significant increase compared to what we have now and I don't believe there's enough PVP people in the game to justify it. No matter how amazing it is, at it's heart PVP is PLAYER versus PLAYER... PVP absolutely requires people in game to participate for it to be any good.
So perhaps rather than try to teach existing players, if they really want to do something with PVP it's going to require reaching to new/former players who actually care about PVP. PVP pretty much only appeals to certain styles of players, which is fine. My biggest issue with putting Gozer "in charge" of PVP is his complete lack of respect for the different play styles people have. My concern is his solution will involve something that lures/bribes non-PVPers into going up against way more experienced players and being annihilated. I know there are a segment of players that appeals too but that's neither healthy for the game or the long-term survival of PVP.
If they want PVP to succeed... keep it from effecting non-PVP players and make it something that will attract new PVP minded players in. And then come up with some clever explanations as to why saving PVP by making it something worthwhile is a better investment than saving the KDF by making it worthwhile.
I wonder how many KDF missions could have been made with the resources being applied towards "saving" PVP...

Have you seen the new items that are going to be in the LOBI store and C-Store for fleet bases?
1.BRIMNES
Chest of 3 drawers. 600 Lobi or 3000 CP
2. ANTILOP
Highchair with safety belt, 500 Lobi or 2999 CP
3. BEKVÄM
Stepladder, 3 steps 1000 Lobi or 9000 CP
4. MANDAL
Bed frame with storage boxes 20000 Lobi or 15000cp.
Apparently they are getting there ideas from a Certain Swedish furniture shop.
With items like these, you can make your dolls house, sorry Fleet base look so sweet, with a nice docking port to put your lovely ships in.
Damn, I missed out the wardrobe for all those costumes (as long as your not a Klingon)...
Since this game is filled with nothing more than "Carebears" who like to "play Star Trek dress up" and run "sissyfied" missions... perhaps the best thing to do is pull PVP altogether since the average STO player simply isn't man enough for you...
I mean how horrible for hardcore PVPers if they made it totally amazing and then it was overrun with all those horribly, whiny star trek fan "carebears" that play the rest of the game.
Or become one of them, but without that annoying elitist atttude, proving them that they can do differently and still be good at PvP.
There are different types of trash talk. The fun kind that's just witty banter. And the hurtful type that people use to denigrate others to make themselves feel better. I always try to stay on the first side. I am not sure I always succeed, but everyone is fallible.
I hate to see that good people are turned off by PvP by those that act childish, immature and abusive. Because PvP doesn't require that attitude. The coolparts of the PvP community can be the cooperation and discussion of the inner workings of the game, and providing each other with challenges, learning to "outsmart" others and being outsmarted in turn, experiencing both surprises and having things work out as planned, and the friends you make alongside doing it.
interesting that you find more folks being jerks in another area where Epeen comes into play, STF's so what I'm reading from that, is anywhere Epeen, matters, it shows. That, is a good way to say it. as to why it shows more in STF than PVP, probably because there are more doing STF than PVP. We know that, to be pretty factual based on Gozers comment about PVP.
I've personally yet to see a person say "if you don't PVE then your opinion doesn't count/matter/what have you.
I've personally seen it more than once, from a PVP view point.
I myself judge myself, on what my wife, and children think of me, since they, are what I hold as my "standard' as to my measurement of myself. I also consider what my partners at work think of me as a measurement of myself. Personally speaking, what and where I stand in the game, matters little, simply because, its nothing but a game. I don't understand those who think it is a value of themselves, but if its what you choose to value, so be it. Don't however force your valuation onto me, because I don't subscribe to it.
STFs, PvP, they all have one thing in common - your success or failure is dependent on that of other players. And that's where the epeen enters. In Solo PvE, if you fail, you either accept it's your own fault or you can claim that the NPCs were unbalanced, overpowered. Whatever you do, the NPCs don't argue against you. In STFs or PvP, suddenly your performance is judged by others, but the overall performance of the team is not just yours. So people start putting the blame on others - sometimes rightfully so (but usually in the wrong tone), sometimes wrongfully so (never looking for their own faults).
epeen is not a matter of PvP, it's a matter of multiplayer. Competitive, Cooperative, Mixed, it doesn't matter.
it's a matter of multiplayer. Competitive, Cooperative, Mixed, it doesn't matter.
I would beg to differ on that, I've played several Multi player games that were HIGHLY competitive in which several folks would actually own up to errors, myself included. I've seen the opposite as well. it has nothing to do with the MMO, the competition, cooperation or anything.
It does however have EVERYTHING to do with the person behind the keyboard. Don't believe me, go coach a kids league sometime then deal with the idiot parents who scream bloody hell when their son who is the be all end all of the game is removed for someone else who according to them, isn't worth being on the team. its the person, not the enviroment.
Like i said, I've played with both, and over time have come to realize it doesn't matter what it is, if the person is that way, they will be, that way. If they're not, then they won't.
I've seen some highly competitive people who will readily accept the blame when they do wrong, and will just as readily credit the entire team when everything goes right. it is the person, not the game.
Works just fine for me. PVP "balancing" has caused PVE nothing but problems IMO as PVP was very poorly implemented to begin with (My opinion, I won't bother responding to anyone this may upset as it is just my personal point of view).

Pure speculation here, but I think Gozer will make everything cross-faction, create a PvP Reward Currency, then have some Sets and Items made for them. And turn PvP into a way to grind for getting these items. Just like what he did with STFs.
This is highly likely IMO. Which further reinforces the just kill it option from my point of view.

Personally I don't find any of it fun, or witty but that's just me. That's why I strongly hope that whatever is done keeps PVP and everything that goes with it in it's own section of the game. I hope they do whatever the PVP guys want to give them a fun experience, as long as I don't have to see or be effected by any of it.
I've done enough PVP gathering up my PVP accolades to know that its' just not something I enjoy. I play STO for fun and to relax, not push the envelope of build performance and work on coordinating timed, precision attacks against other teams of players. I respect those that find it fun, but that's simply too much like "work" and I get enough of that offline...
And for the record, the post you were quoting me on was directed towards another guy... I was sarcastically using his own words, and I know sarcasm is easily missed on the 'net...
