# 1 Playing a T3 Ship Endgame ..
05-22-2012, 07:01 AM
Well you know what .. I loved my Olympic class so I decided could she work end game ? .. well having done 10 or so elite STF's with her I can say Yes .. OK OK .. she will never have the staying power of a better ship, nor as many powers .. however Having equiped her with the best weps, sheilds ect .. I spec'ed (is that a word? ) her as a Niche healer .. so i fly about healing ships .. and it sort of works ..

Anyone else do the same with an older ship ? or just me ? fulfill any niche rolls ?

Rollplay wise its fun ..

and also .. no one has complained,....... yet .. and most are greatfull for a Niche healer flying about,... well,.... err healing

I have done - I equipped my old Rhode-Island type Nova class with MkXI everything. Was able to hold my own pretty well, in a support capacity.

Got 'told off' for griefing (here and in-game) though, so don't do it anymore.

From time to time I bring my Miranda Class Light Cruiser equipped with a two piece OMEGA MKXII and a MACO MKXII Shield into the Star Base 24 Fleet action.

I use TT-I, EPTS-I and TTS-I bridge officer abilities as a Career specific Engineering captain.

I load her up weapon wise with dual Phaser cannons and Retrofit Forward Phaser Beams fore and a single retrofit Phaser beam aft.

Running with High shield and weapon power levels, she does alright.

since healing others in elite stf's is really not a viable and an important role to play, you are pretty much useless if you are not able to deliver any signifficant amount of dmg.

Sure the stf's are easy enough to go in with a low tier ship, but it's still an unpolite, and ignorant move. Don't missunderstand me here, i don't want to force anybody to play any ship they don't like. You can do so with your friends and your fleet, but not in a PUG stf, plz!
When i join a PUG for elite stf's i give or try to give my best to win. And i expect nothing less from any other player. If you haven't got even that little amount of respect towards other players in an MMO, then i guess single player games are more suited for you.
If everybody would go in with a low lvl ship, and everybody has the right to do so, PUG stf's would become unplayable and everybody would get fed up with it.

If you wanna do PUG stf's grab a T5 ship, doesn't need to be a sci ship, and give your best, read guides etc.
If you see this game as an opportunity to anoy other people and troll them in any way possible, i pity you.

PS: Plz, don't see this is a verbal attack towards any ofyou. All i did is to express my opinion on the subject. The game mechanics shouldn't even allow people to join stf's in lower lvl ships anyway, but if people wanna troll they will find a way.

Raudl, I think the point of the post was to confirm whether or not it was possible to use a T3 ship in Elite STFs. Some of us do like the lower tiered ships for aesthetic purposes. The Fleet Escort for example is one of the least "Trek" looking ships in existence in this game. But running around in an Akira would make it feel more like Trek for a lot of people. Knowing that you can hold your own with a lower ship is good to know. Hell, I've taken my Constitution with MK XI Omega set, MK XII borg weapons, and had a blast in normal STFs (Elites would just be suicide).

The game doesn't always have to be about min/maxing, you can have fun with it from time to time =)

As said its important to be able to deliver a decent amount of DPS in Elite STFs

Otherwise they take too long and often fail.

I use my odyssey with mark XII borg weapons and 3 piece omega set (also XII)

And just tank and heal escorts as they pass by.

Oddy can be a good healer while delivering good damage.

So I would use at least a tier 4 in elites.

I respect your honsety, however sometimes I feel it is a case of Must have T5 with best wepons researching best DPS ect (I do it myself) and because of that everyone ends up being the same .. and yes your right in part doing what I do could come across as being a twonk, trying to take the preverbial, but also there is a sence (for me) of a real challenge, doing it in my T5 kills anything not as satisfiying as doing it in my T3 where i support (and to be fair no one complains, though if everyone turned up in a T3 then yeah a bit stupid) if you have say 4 of the 5 speced to the teeth then a single T3 is not really a big drain on the team, and to say healing in elite is not viable .. well i would dissagree strongly as there have been countless times i have stopped a player sploding which has kept the odds in the teams favour (probes into the time warp, or a last min heal on the Kang and a allie who is fending off Borg BOP's)

Thank you for the post and the alternitive point of view.

Nothing beats battling a Negh'var Battleship at VA level in an NX escort.

Though I don't want to join the 'bash STO brigade', I will say that this is one of the fundemental flaws with STO.

What I WILL say though is that it is a pity that the ships that we purchase early in the game - in my case the Rhode Island type, have such limited usefulness. It's a real pity that a ship that I used for the early portions of the game is now, technically, useless. I paid good money for it but aside from the occasional Starbase 24, it doesn't have a purpose at endgame.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm NOT arguing the point of whether ships below T5 should be in STF's or not - that one has been done to death. I just feel that it's a shame that there isn't some type of system in place where some form of token (c-store purchase perhaps?), that increases the tier etc of a chosen ship to match the player's level, couldn't be introduced.

yeah, it is a shame that those low lvl ships are useless once lvled up. And that is one of the biggest flawes in the game.
Just when you want to do it, do it with your fleet or friends, not in a PUG. Thats just unfair towards other people.
