First I just want to say this: Cryptic is one of the better teams of developers I've seen in a long time. They didn't let their customers down for the money, like EA and Bioware, and when Atari rushed the game out at Beta stage, Cryptic's developers worked expertly to satisfy community complaints, and have brought this game to a point where it is one of the best MMO's on the market.

Yet, for personal reasons, I decided to take an extended break from the game.

When I came back, I was happy with a lot of the new things, except for one thing that caught my eye: The Atrox Carrier.

Back after release, one of the bigger complaints was that the Klingons having the Carrier made them much too powerful in PvP. Cryptic responded well to the constructive criticism, and reduced the Carrier's power, and they didn't cave in when people started using the reasoning that if one side get's it, we should too. Me and other members of the community recognized that that was not the answer, and offered many alternatives. I myself suggested some sort of battleship rather than just giving us a Carrier (I play Fed-only, and I guess the Odessy is pretty much a Battleship.) Eventually, when the MVA Prometheus and other ships turned out to be pretty good counters, the issue was dropped.

However, now that Cryptic has given the Federation a Carrier, it seems like all the dev's prior insistence on not caving in to demands for a carrier were all for naught.

Yes. KDF only? "OP!" until starfleet gets it. Then it is "Sux! Buff plz, kdf still has more/better".

And now, perhaps it is time for them to give up on a separate kdf faction. To be or not to be. That is again the question for the klingon empire.

Things were so much easier back at the food nipple...

I say let them make money the store is pretty sparse compared to other games this and many other items should be added.

The only thing that disappoints me slightly about the Atrox is that it can be bought in any color, provided that it is blue. (No, seriously, some customization options for a more individual look would be nice.)

I don't really get why not adding options to a game would make you feel more comfortable. I mean, no one forces you to buy the Atrox, so what is the deal?

I too am very disappointed that we have another ship. Nothing ruins my gaming experience like new fun stuff.

My only big thing is the federation is known for its great Engineers and I think that the Atrox should have been designed as an Engineering Carrier. The klinks would have kept some of their uniqueness with it being a engineer focused carrier as they have a science and a tactical carrier styles.

Well, welcome back! and welcome to the fray!

and yeah, pretty much so. I have abandon my klingon over it due to many factors. Wife still messes with hers but i stripped mine bare and he is nothing other then a mat trash holder.

The problem was not the carrier itself but the pets

Carriers only get 6 weapons slots , so the pets need only compensate for the loss of damage from two weapons a little for restricted mobility.

But checking the cmbat log parser with the new buffed pets the damage they alone can put outcan be about 2 x the average player in an Escort* with no skill required to get this damage it's a huge advanatage.

Checking the combat logs with a parser you'll usually find an avg player escort will put out raw damage of about 300k , the right pets can do 600k in an average match

Also some of these Damage pets and other pets have specail bridge officer powers , like tractor beam, Target Subsystem, Energy Siphon, other power Drains, tachyon beams, Chroniton Procs , Phaser procs , so the it's like the carrier is getting multiple extra Bridge officer Slots and powers as well.

For example having 1/2 danube run about pets , half stalker pets is like having an extra player + on your team.

The same is true of the buffed Klingon pets

With a swarm of pets you are constantly getting procs from thier weapons due to the sheer number of them and you are getting multiple powers used on you constantly , tractor beams, target systems, shield strips, power drains etc, the game mechanic counters was for you only to be dealing with a couple of these from players , not 8 times per carrier from pets with player on top !

You can find your self totally unable to do anything when in a swarm , no power, no movement , no shield etc.

The pets really need a balance pass please
