Hi! I am playing a Science captain. Which ship do you prefer, the long range science vessel retrofit or the Vulcan D'kyr?

Depends really, the D'kyr has 3k more hull, an LT CDR Eng boff, and an support craft that heals and shoots things. But the Intrepid retrofit has LT CDR Sci boff slot, higher turn rate, better inertia by a ton, and the ablative generator. In a knock down drag out fight, I have to give it to the Intrepid for the extra science slot, ablative generator, and superior turn/inertia.

Only my Odyssey is closer to my heart than my VA Bellerophon. It is an awesome little ship.

The new Atrox Carrier is a DSSV that's traded in turn rate and sensor analysis for 2 hangers 75% more hull and an improved bridge officer layout. I thought it was a good trade and picked it up.

Thanks for the input everyone!

How is the carrier? I noticed the turn rate is really bad. After playing through the lieutenant level, I swore I would never take a ship with a bad turn rate again. It drove me BONKERS, lol. Something else I noticed, the carrier only has 4 boff slots. Is that a hindrance?

The Atrox has an identical boff configuration to the DSSV, except that instead of a leutenant and ensign engineering stations, you get a leutenant commander station. The only problem that causes is that I lost an efficient bridge officer on my main, bringing me from 4 to 3 and losing 0 power (unless that rounds but I don't care). I just moved my DSSV build to the Atrox, as I was running the DSSV as a light cruiser anyway.

The turn rate is a problem. Ways I've found to turn around:

Evasive Maneuvers
Hyper Engines, shifting power to engines and/or running a high power build
Deuterium Surplus (daily just north of Ker'rat in the Alhena system)
Aux2ID (it works but takes your aux2 slot)

Except for Tachyon Beam, you should have no problems getting your front 90 degrees on your target for whatever power you want to use, especially when using the Danube Runabouts, which are lulzy if you aren't being shot by them.

I won a 2v1 in my Atrox yesterday vs 2 tacs in escorts. 5 kills, 0 deaths

The Intrepid is the better science ship. The Vulcan ship looks quite nice though.

No other ship gives you 8 sci slots which is incredibly versatile.

Thanks for the good info!

The 8 science slots does seem nice. There are so many abilities that I want to try! How does this affect the boff engineers that only end up with 2 slots? Does every body run EPtS 1 & 2? Reverse Shield Polarity seems like a really cool skill, but I know it has a long cooldown so it probably isn't worth using in this scenario.

# 9 Updating My Question

Hi Everyone! I have gotten a little farther in the game, just under the commander level now. I'm looking farther down the road to the end of the game.

I am still enjoying being a science officer. I didn't want to cave into the Sci Oddy, but the 8 weapon slots seem really awesome. How is the dps with the Sci Oddy compared to the Atrox Carrier and DSSV? Is it a significant amount more with the 8 slots vs 6? Do the stalker fighters on the carrier make up the 2 less slots?

I am so torn, lol. Please help!

1. Oddy is still cruiser, its not sci ship. No hi lvl sci BO, no subsystem targeting... and it is slow. And to use 8 weapon slots you will need 125 weapon power, you really want it as sci captain?
2. Carrier... i have no atrox, but experimented with Vo'Quv a bit, and i can say that you "pets" usually can make more damage than carrier itself. But carrier with 6 beams can still make good damage (at least with tac captain). Carier (Vo'Quv at least) is a nice ship, but it is not good for every player....

Is think it will be wise to get one of free RA ships and try using them, finaly i use RSV because i like it more thel all those c-store ships. And if you will want some new expirience... you can get atrox. Other c-store sci ships, imo, a not worth c-ponts, because they are almost the same...
